So if I pass I suppose I should buy a car?

My car has 2 scrapes on it - one caused by a Mondeo that decided to drive into my drivers door whilst trying to give himself plenty of room to get out the other side and one caused by some woman in a Tesco car park who opened her door onto me :(

I have been driving since mid july and no scrapes yet *touch wood*, witnessed a few retarded moves, all by women funnily enough :p

Original Mini or Ford Escort Mk2, did me alright when I was a nipper, and great fun to learn the art of driving without getting into to much trouble. Just a thought, probably not good for the street cred though, but at 39 I have long past worrying about that :p

On the roads my biggest problem is with boy racers and people who want to go 2mph faster than me so sit right up close behind me so I can't see their numberplate anymore.

In car parks, and I hate to be sexist but it really is true, women drivers really are the main hazard.

A old mate (became a boy racer) has this car. Looks really nice inside with the wood panels

However it does look quite nice. But so does the 306. So are you guys saying it should be possible for me to buy these cars (only 1 lol) and get insured for < £3000. I can't find any small litre ones. My Dad says that a bigger liter engine 1.4 + is going to be way to expensive or the insurance company wont even insure me.

A 1.4 will still be cheap to insure as it's not all that quick - you might even be able to get a decent quote on a 1.6. Just get some plates from autotrader and then run them through some insurance engines to see the difference in price

I'd try Admiral and add your Mum as a second driver to keep the price down

Do they make Mk2 with electrics and air con?

Dont know really, mine has electrics but no air con, the older ones tend to have loads of electrics but no air con as far as I know I would have thought a bubble would probably be a better choice anyway

If this is available in the budget then this is what I would be looking at for you tob3z. My first couple cars were Fiestas and they were perfect for that time.

I would have the Fiesta over a slipper wagon :p

get insurance quotes on the cars that have been mentioned and post them back up here, then you can see if you can buy the car for the balance of the budget.

who are the best insurers for young people now? ive found that elephant is good, so far

all new drivers are crap since we are new... we dont have the experience that peolpe have been driving for a long time have, so we are likely to scrape our cars.

I saw your original response. Styles is a mate of mine lol. I was only messing :)

Ugh I'm such a n00b at this.

All I'm doing is going on Autotrader and looking up cars that people have mentioned.

Ford Escort. Why did anyone even mention that lol. I found a really nice 1996 FORD ESCORT LX 16. But because I am a fool I didn't realise its means 1.6. So I go on elephant and get a quote. £3300.

I have to stop clicking pictures of nice cars. :p

Right I'm going to stop looking on Autotrader now. There's not many cars in a 40 mile distance from me in my budget.

One car I did find link

Oh BTW I know I shouldn't be fussy. But colours of cars you won't see my driving in. Red, White, Green (dark greens ok).

Dark colours are better. They don't show up the dirt as easily. lol

It's not the fact that it's a 1.6 that's the problem. It's the fact that it's an Escort. Think to yourself - loads of young lads drive Escorts, and lots of them get crashed, hence, high insurance. I'm willing to bet that a 1.4 Escort would still be £3000 to insure from the same company.

Try tapping in the insurance to a 1.8 Mondeo, or a Saab 900, or a 2.0 Omega, just to see..... I bet they're cheaper than 1.4 Escorts/Fiestas/Clios/Golfs.
