So insurance is a killer...

The world of insurance is hard and is full of swings and roundabouts. If it was me I would GET OFF COMPARISON WEBSITES. I use them to present a list of insurance companies I could use. Then I ring each one directly, sometimes i will do it online and then ring.

*Add one of your parents as a named driver
*Work out realistically how many miles a year you do
*Would you have a box in your car to monitor you?
*What cars are you looking at? I had a Seat Ibiza 1.4 Sport 2006 and for the same price Ive upgraded to a 1.4TSI Cupra 2010. So some cars may appear more but may not be.

Another tip I thought of, look at some larger cars. A friend of mine was getting quotes of up to £1500 for his 1.6 Astra, he jokingly looked at an old Jag and that was about £700. Obviously don't look at a Jag, but Top Gear found an old volvo was good on insurance.

When I first started driving I got far cheaper insurance on a 2.0 Mondeo than I would have on a 1.0 Fiesta. Try looking at some family saloon size cars and you might be pleasantly surprised. I also noticed that a lot of diesel versions of the same car cost more than the petrol versions, I assume because of increased rep-mobile claims on the diesel version.

I know its cause and effect here, but this just promotes youngsters driving without insurance........and until i get hit by one of them, i find it hard not to sympathise, and don't blame them.
Sure, if they can't afford it then they should go without, who what 19 year old is EVER going to be able to afford £3k let alone £7k for motor insurance???

Just unbelievable, what a state its in.

I have zero sympathy for those who drive without insurance. If you can't afford it, don't drive. Wait a year or two and it's much cheaper. The vast majority of teenagers have very little need to drive, in all honesty.

It might have a positive effect of less young idiots on the road. There does seem to be less people doing 'watch this!' manuvers.

I'm in a similar situation, no matter what car I pick.. it's no lower than £2,200. however, if I say I'm in Education or currently Employed it drops down to as low as £1,700.

That's a kick in the nuts for me, I've always been in a job and always been in education, the only reason I'm not employed currently is because I got laid off work..

Tempted to just go on my parents insurance, wait until I get a job.. and then go on my own and save ~£500, but that obviously depends just how much that will all cost, will have to do some more research.

This is the reason i've not driven until now, i've not been able to afford it.

Currently i CAN spend 3k on it if need be, because of my full time employment, it doesn't mean i WANT to by any stretch of the imagination.

It would make work a whole lot easier.
