So - is the 4850 faster than an 8800gts?

Assasins Creed: 4850 CF wins

The wicther and bioshock it is clear crossfire isn't working (although I have seen other reviews where crossfire does work with Bioshock so may be amandtech been pants again ;)) as the score is the same for a single 4850 and xfir 4850 so you can't count them

Therefore you are left with one game, Crysis where 8800GT SLI beats 4850 CF by 1fps.

The other problem is there are lots of reviews on the internet where 4850's in xfire at 1920 x 1200 beats the GX2 into the ground, never mind two 8800GT in SLI.

Add that the 8800GT are on far more mature drivers & a lot of them games are known to run bad on ATI card in the first place. i only have BioShock from that list & no way to know if they are using the fixed 4800 drivers.

also will i see a difference as they will run in 16x & 4x crossfire?
this is what my P35AP-S says

2* PCIe x16 (run x16 + x4 mode) with CrossFire™ Support
ATI CrossFire™ technology harnesses the power of two ATI graphics cards simultaneously to deliver ultra-smooth 3D graphics with more graphical detail than ever before. Ideal for gaming enthusiasts who demand the highest frame rates without compromising on resolution.

The thing with most of the reports that the 4850 is faster as they are running 2 cards. Where the 280 is run as one. We need a test with 2 of each card of the top cards. No talks about price, core temps or wattage (par price does anyone read those parts? Or are they just page fillers). Just a simple bog standard frame rates test. Otherwise the whole thing is an invalid test in my eyes. Its like saying two 280s are faster than one 4850.

I just feel its bad testing not to have a test with singles of both cards or 2 of both cards. Having one nvida vs 2Ati seems a little bit like someones tring to push the results in Ati favor.

Its just a point nothing to do with money just the tests are not fair unless your testing like product for like product. Also if the tester has all the cards could they not buy a second 280 or un cross fire one of the Ati cards.

ATI are going for the "bang for buck"

So 2x ati cards for less than 1 nvidia card

I think that's equal

It's same as saying, Here's 500 quid, Go sort the fastest graphics setup with that amount

If i can run 2 cards that cost less than a single card and is on par with the single card i gonna choose the cheaper option

Ciao

Everyone knows the GTX280 will take chunks out of a 4850 in the vast majority of situations, there are tests that show this already. The reason the 4850 crossfire setup is so attractive is because it delivers similar performance for a smaller price tag. Sure you can get a GTX280 SLi setup but who the hell wants to spend £700-900 on graphics cards?

I know nvida cost more same as intel and amd but if your looking at the tests to get which cards are the best technology without the cost. The information is not there. I been asked two times today which is better SLI 280 or crossfire 4850. All I can say is buy both and I'll find out.

Yes insane but people sometimes just want to know.

Thats an easy answer.

Money no object? + Want the fastest thing available now? = SLI GTX280

Money no object? + Can wait a few weeks? = Crossfire 4870X2
