I think it's at the testers discretion.

When I first got my green 420, it had a completely standard exhaust system bar a backbox with a 4" outlet. It was so loud it made the viewing booth vibrate when doing the fast idle test

Got a few comments but made it through the test.

Oh and before anyone says anything... it was eventually changed for a quieter but better system

My motorbike was loud enough that my wife could hear me coming down the lanes to the house and have a cup of tea ready when I arrived and this was a factory upgrade from new. I eventually had it swapped for the standard exhaust as it was embarrassingly loud although it did sound quite good. Even the stock exhaust when pushed was loud and I imagine over 85db ?

No it isn't, a V twin is no louder than any other 2 cylinder engine configuration. A Harley running open pipes is obnoxiously loud, but that's down to the exhaust more than the engine.

They really don't, just like they don't look, they don't listen above the sound of their stereos.

All loud bike exhausts do is annoy people in the middle of the night, which you seem happy with...

I can't say I ever noticed any difference in having a very loud bike to a moderately loud one in other motorists.

I certainly did not feel safer as it was louder.

There is an annoying person who live off my road, they drive quad bike on the road which has a stupidly loud sound even at low speeds. Hopefully that'll be sorted out. We do get some small hatchbacks that are a it loud going past but it's hard to tell if it's the exhaust or the fact that they are caning it.
