So no 580 in stcok and over £300 for a 570 well done Nvidia

6950 @ £270 - £300 Inc. VAT
6970 @ £360 - £400 inc. VAT

they look about spot on and will cover pretty much the whole market. 6950 couldn't be any cheaper as it'd hit 6870 sales. 6970 pricing I think is still more up in the air, will depend very much on how it compares to the GTX 580. Nvidia have, IMO, over-priced the 570. In all likelihood the 6950 will be a bit quicker and they'll have to drop the price. I think really they're paying the price for poor FERMI architecture now and in the coming months.

Well a few reputable members of other forums, people known to work closely or within the industry, have given $$$ prices that don't tally with Gibbo's prices.

If the conversion to pounds pushes them to over £260 and £325 I will be ordering in dollars.

6950@£300
6970@£400

all bemchmarks showing "570, 6950" and "580, 6970" within 2-3% of each other. that would be funny :)

If those prices above are true then both (amd's) would need to hammer their respective peirs by at least 20% for amd to really win. NV will no doubt drop prices on day 1 of amds launch lets not forget.

People are buying the 570 at this price, nVidia made the right move (for themselves) but the prices will go down to around what the AMD 6970/6950 offers

Fermi is struggling to compete with cards a generation behind

Smoke crack much?

I think once the old stock of the 5000 series and the 400 series starts to go then we will see the prices start to slide a bit, nvidia are probably milking the fact that any rich techie who wants the best will be bagging a 500 series or taking a bit of a gamble that he will either be dissapointed with ati's 6900's or that they put the release back till after the holiday season.

Problem is, we're not seeing a huge performance boost in any new releases. There is *A* performance boost, yes, but nothing groundbreaking to speak of as far as current generation games will be concerned.
As a result, we have a bunch of cards all struggling at the same 'tier' and pricepoint... thats why 5870s, 470s and 6870s are all having a punch up while 5970s, 480s and 570s are about to ogo the same way. Still, maybe thats a good thing? More competition, more options, more competative pricing...

Why does everyone have to jump on every discussion as being a battle of red vs green? Come on mods, delete that rubbish.

The reason these cards can seem a little underwhelming is because all they've done really is release what they should have 6 months ago. It's clearly been a much more difficult architecture to perfect than they ever thought.

The worrying thing for me is the lack of supply and the size of the cores which is pushing the price of NV cards up, which in turn means that AMD can sell for higher prices too.

or they could undercut them so even when nvidia to have supply nobody will buy them anyway ?

I suspect they only did that with the 4870 was because they were kinda struggling so they had an opportunity to get 'back in the game'. They've no need to do that at the moment, that I can see.

i have to disagree wolvers
if amd play their cards ( no pun intended ) right, they could render ( no pun intended again ) nvidias 5xx useless
wheather 69xx be faster or slightly slower.

Yeah true, but they may well of lost money on the 4870s for all we know. They weren't exactly a profitable company then (waits for DM to correct me! :p).

Nice puns by the way. ;)

This is exactly what worries me about the 500 series cards - all they have done is spend a long time trying to tweak an existing architecture. It could be a short term stop gap to grab more cash and buy some time to develop the next gen card. The 500 series could turn out to be a very short term prospect.

As others have already said (and posted benchies to prove) an overclocked 480 will already match a brand spanking new 580 so just what kind of future does this card really have?

Well TSMC will start to dabble with 28nm some time around summer, Nvidia will get chips back and testing will take them to around winter time, add design tweaks, production ramping and retail work. I would say 15-18 months before we see the 600 cards.
