been reading around about the scythe ninja and how the newer rev b is rather poor for 775 as the mounting system wasnt as good as the original? but the rev b is better for other cpus apparently.

would the general consensus try and source a original ninja or get a different hsf for my e4300, im going for "as silent as possible" :)

There is always the NOCTUA NH-U12F... damn good performance and the supplied fan is about as close to silient as you are ever going to get. Ive got bat like hearing and all i can hear is the slight woosh of the air.

I have a revision B on my e6600 and DS3 - it's clocked to 3.2ghz. Needs a bit of juice to get there so is at 1.47v.

It idles in the mid 40's and gets to 54 under full orthos load. With my old Opteron 165 i would see 56 degrees at full load when clocked to 2.8ghz @ 1.36v. So the 775 performance seems fine to me!

Getting an Amanda today though but all in all the scythe is a nice cooler that i would recommend to anyone! :)

I really hope not as I have one being delivered today.
apparently the original had a plate you mount underneath giving a better fit but the new ones are the push pins which apparently are poop.

Didn't realise that - mine must not be a rev.B then. It came in a rev.B box but mine has no push pin mounts. It's all screwed and clamped down!

Did get it second hand so maybe the boxes got mixed up! :p

for anything other than 775, word is that the rev b is better. not sure i feel comfortable with the push pins holding a tall cooler up, i'd want it to be mounted securely.

having said that i'll probably end up getting one once i give up not being able to find an original ninja. :(

They're actually evercool spider fans:

2000rpm - 80cfm - <25dba

They're pretty good and are fairly quiet from 1700rpm down but at 2000rpm they are a bit much! They work well with the ninja but really shine on coolers like the big typhoon with its tightly packed fins!

As i'm getting the Amanda it may be worth asking me about what i plan to do with my Ninja now! ;)

Email in trust.

Are they core temps or CPU temps you mention?

I've got a selection of fans listed in the email i sent you - no extra charges for them either! I listed a selection from super quiet to high flow so i'm sure you'll find your perfect match! :)

was waiting for my cm black widow to come through and finally got the ninja installed today, mucho hassle!

got the bracket installed on the motherboard, looked on the floor and one of the washers had falled out, argh ffs, took it apart and put the bracket + washers on properly. didnt really want to stick the underside mounting plate to the mobo.

then i couldnt get the wires which hold the fan up to go on a certain way even though there are notches on all 4 sides (the tabs that hold it to the mounting bracket got in the way), thought sod it, cba to take it apart again i'll just have it blowing up even though its right next to my 8800gts which blocks most airflow.

go to slide the tray in, nooo wouldnt fit! ended up taking the whole thing apart again to reorientate the brackets so i could mount the thing facing up but first sliding the tray in.

its a tight fit in a coolermaster black widow case, it only "just" fits! shame i would have to take the ninja off to use my removeable tray, im not a fan of removing hsf's once they're installed so im not planning on taking this rig apart unless i have to.

a quick test shows that temps are much better now, with the intel hsf, at 2.7ghz, running orthos for 5 mins made the temps rocket upto 70C and i'd always bail at that point! a quick 10 minute check and temps were around 55C. though thats with a 120mm scythe fan running at what i assume will be 12v, it seems to be running at around 800rpm but waiting for one of those 5v 3pin adapters to come through the post to quieten it down some, that or i can 5v my case fans..

Hi Matt,

Glad you got it fitted and are seeing nice results pal!

I must admit the Ninja can be a pain to fit the first couple of times but once you've done it more than that it's just a breeze.

I must have installed that cooler on 4 or 5 boards and reseated a couple of times on each!

It's a great piece of kit and TBH my Amanda doesn't beat it by much at all!

Let me know how you get on with the fan undervolted! ;)
