Beach-goers were evacuated from the sea after reports of a "large marine animal" in the water.

Lifeguards instructed swimmers to leave the sea at Boscombe Beach in Bournemouth while they scanned the water on Wednesday.

Visitors took to social media and said there had been a shark sighting.

The RNLI said it received reports of "significant movement" in the water but lifeguards were unable to formally identify the animal.

Since when did we start doing this ?

:D

On a serious note, probably just a basking shark maybe?

We've had basking sharks on our shores for centuries though, why suddenly we're pulling an Amity Island and evacuating folk from the water lol I know there's the yearly Daily Mirror "GREAT WHITE SPOTTED IN CORNWALL" but never heard of the sea being evacuated before for a shark sighting

It was just a school of fish but in the post-COVID era I guess they will need to shut down the beach down for the next 15 years just to be on the safe side. My security to not be eaten by a shark trumps your freedom to go swimming in the sea.

I remember it happening at least once as a kid when at the beach in Devon or Cornwall.

Sadly I fear this is true. As a society we desperately need to MTFU while we're still allowed to do anything.

I was fishing Chesil years back when a Porbeagle jumped out and it looked like a scene straight out of Jaws. Think it was chasing the mackerel.
