Would like a little more life for my Desire S and noticed a "High Capacity Gold 2430MAH Replacement Business Battery For HTC Desire S BA S530" for sale on ebay and a few other sites, now that is 1000MAH more than the standard OEM part and is apparently the same size and shape (it needs to be otherwise it just wont fit) as the OEM one. Are these things a con? Dangerous? Avoid at all costs?

Any input would be appreciated thanks :)

Potential there for damaging the phone - some are genuine i.e. mugens (somewhat overpriced but the real thing) and others are cheap chinese knocks offs that at best often don't have anything like the rated mAh and at worst have faulty thermal/current circuits and may fry your phone.

Quite typical for the cheaper extended life batteries to be 2x refurbished normal ones or low price knock offs in a cheap plastic housing, poorly soldered together.

EDIT: I remember someone on XDA did a load of testing once - can't find the link off hand - and they found things like 2300mAh battery was actually 1650, 3500mAh was actually about 2400, etc.

I can guarantee that the battery isn't 2430 mAh. It's a fake. With current technology, it's not possible to get a 2430 mAh battery in the same size as a standard desire battery.

Avoid. Either get an official battery, or Mugen/Anker.

Agreed - out of curiosity I bought one off eblag...well only £12  Supposed to be 2430mAh but rip the gold label off and there's text on there that looks like it's only 1500mAh. Certainly lasts like one and for sure is NOT 2430mAh. Should forward to trading standards though expect they have better things to do than deal with idiots :D It'll do for a spare. A better option may be one of those battery backups from such as New Trent and others to charge a flagging battery on the go?

Nice timing, was just about to post to ask the same thing! :D Was shopping around for an extended battery for my Desire Z and I noticed that the Mugen ones were much more expensive than other brands, so I got suspicious that the others might be trying to pull a fast one... :p You say that Anker are also good quality, but they seem to be much cheaper than Mugen, are they as good?

I bought a higher rated battery for my desire z last year (ebay) , it was no where near as good as the battery that came with the phone,it was a waste of money but handy as a spare i guess

I had a no name one come with my dock for my Desire 2 years ago and it's an excellent temporary battery.

Hasn't fried my phone or anything mentioned above
