I played both WoW and SWTOR for 2 months a piece. WoW was alright for the first four weeks or so. Dare I say, I was actually enjoying going from place to place with my friend, making sure lots of nasty things had a bad day. It probably helped that I had a Jamaican troll with a pink mohawk, but hey. For some reason, though, in about week 5/6, I started to lose interest. Not even the dungeons and such felt fun. I played a shaman as well, so it's not like I wasn't playing a varied class. I think it was a case of feeling like I was constantly treading over old ground instead of exploring new and exciting places like you would in a single player game. I got up to level 70-something thanks to triple XP to level 60.
SWTOR was very enjoyable for the first month. I loved the story (I played my Chiss Imperial Agent, resurrected from the grave of beta wipe) and even headed my own guild with a few people. After the story ended, there was little to do, though. The server was completely dead, which meant finding a group was nigh impossible, even with guild members due to life commitments, time differences, etc. The lack of decent looking armour was a bit of a killer, though. Especially after what they showcased in the trailers. All that high resolution, cool armour, and on release, we get a bland, blurry mess
As for which one's worth bothering with, WoW is mechanically the better game, but SWTOR was the better game to play for me, being a big fan of the Star Wars universe, and the voice acting. As filler as a lot of the quests were, it was still nice that they were voice acted, and for those quests that mattered, it really added the context and made you feel involved. It also had some game-changing decisions, particularly in the Imperial Agent story. Some of them were very difficult
Forgive the ranting. It's late, and I've been drinking scotch
