As said previous, write to HMRC. Send them a letter explaining, copy of your P45, and they can issue a P6(T) to your new employer when you find a job which adjusts your tax paid. You'd then get your refund in the first paycheck in your new job.
If I read it correctly, you do have a P45, which is all you need.
Well I don't need to write a letter, just speak to a new employer, explain the situation and ask to fill out a P46 or whatever, which does equate to the same thing happening as writing them a letter...and puts the onus on the employer to get it right not me.

Unfortunately knowing what the job market is like I suspect it'll be a while before I can get one. I'm quite limited in what I can do as I'm repeating my final year of uni so it has to be part time and evenings/weekends, most part time jobs available are mornings or afternoons, as I'll have lectures/seminars I can't really do them.
