Hi all,

I was going to get the asrock dual motherboard but it seems to have problems with sata2 and samsung harddrives which is what ill be using. I was attracted to the asrock board because of its price and agp but cos of the sata issues and no backplate being supplied, i want to choose another. I dont want to spend a fortune <£80 id like sata2, them main feature i want is overclocking (ill be using an amd 939 3200 or possibly 3700)

thanks in advance

If you could stretch the budget youd be very happy with the:

DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-013-DF). Price: £94.95 (£111.57 Including VAT at 17.5%)

On of the best clocking ability mobo's. Also has SLi option  . I know it depends very much so on the actual cpu in question for overclocking but my 3000+ sits happily at 2.8GHz on a dfi board.

what about abit KN8 ultra at £70.44 or MSI K8N neo4 platinum at £76.32, why bother spending twice as much on SLI board if one isn't going to use SLI? both the abit and the MSI are good clockers too and both seem very reliable

you could try the "B" grade mobo's apparently if there is anything wrong with them OCUK will replace them up till 2 weeks later....

That way you will have a few quid left over for a couple of pints or even *** treat yourself to a night out :D

P.S best overclocking mobo - DFI, MSI
Stable boards - Asus, abit

both the abit and the MSI are good clockers too and both seem very reliable

ive heard of msi being great overclockers slightly behind the DFI not ever heard the abit been any good tho....hmmmmm

DFI NF4 Ultra-D is probably the best non-SLI board you can get for overclocking. Pretty much guaranteed to hit 300MHz+. Got all the voltage/timing options you could ever hope to use as well.

Jokester

a friend of mine called john has his abit flying along, not sure of actual overclock but its well, well above stock, my spare board (since i got SLI-DR) is MSI neo4 platinum, and that never had any problem except BIOS issue at overclocking to any speed i wanted it to, i got 315mhz on HT with multiplier set to 3x and processor multiplier at 5 (cause it refuses to pass 2.9ghz), infact im 95% sure when it became unstable it wasn't the motherboard but the processor or ram saying its had enough, i think it could have went faster to be honest, my SLI-DR is no more impressive than that MSI at overclocking, looks better though, but for the sheer price difference MSI can't be sniffed at

thats why i need watercooling, can a venice 3200+ reach 3Ghz on water with good waterblock and the ability to get rid of all the heat dumped into the water with whatever number of radiators?

doubt it, most clock to 2.6 no matter what volts or cooling (mabaye phase).

**B Grade** Asus A8N-SLi nForce4
Ive just seen the above board in the b grade section.... tempting as it seems a reasonable board for £35

Im new to this site but doenst £8 P&p seem a bit steep...
