I know that you can't take and 800*600 resolution photo and blow it up to poster size because it will look crap. What i am wondering is can someone point me in the direction of software that will take an image file, and somehow change it to a higher resolution suitable for posters etc.

EDIT:
Okay did a quick google and i have downloaded a demo of Blowup which is a photoshop plugin. Can anyone recommend any freeware/standalone applications?

What resolution is the original and what size do you want to print? I've got some A2+ prints which were done from 4Mp originals with no resizing, sure they're a bit blocky right close up but when do you get within 6 inches of a poster?

If you can afford it then Genuine Fractals 5. I'm not saying you're going to get poster size prints from a 600x800 72dpi jpg but it's very good.

downloaded a trial version of genuine fractals, and to be completely honest I wasnt impressed.

Yeah it does the job better than photoshop does on its own, no denying that.

But the cost is massive for what it is. Best price i have seen is £125 which is a lot for a plug in in my opinion,
