I know there are cloud online services that do this via upload. Is there anything though that can auto transfer my pictures and videos from my phone once I connect it to via USB?

I think you can auto upload directly to the cloud from your phone and bypass the PC link in the chain, if you want.

Yes you can, it's very handy. *snap* > upload > done.

For cloud, I use the google+ auto upload.
For the PC, I just drag them across manually.

Google drive and Google+ Auto Backup for desktop apparently does this. it's about a 10th of the cost of DropBox!

Dropbox is free for several GB, google drive is free for up to 15GB. Same cost?
True, but if you're backing up photos you probably have a fair few GB to store so the free option might run out quickly.
I have about 150GB of photos which is annoying because I'd have to buy 1TB of Google drive space, there's no plan between 100-1Tb
