Heard about this on a podcast and decided to look for more info as I miss the space shooter games like X-Wing and Wing Commander.
Found the website : http://solexodus.com/

It's an Indie developer, but with some exerienced names behind it. The storyline sounds fantastic - Fleet of ships sent out to find a new home for Humanity facing extinction, only to return 30 years later to find a cult accepting 'god's will' of extinction. They get attacked and only a few survive to help save those who want to be saved (lots of paraphrasing there).

I for one hope this revives the Space combat genre.

I just wish they would make starlancer 2.

Just something I liked about it, people always talk about freelancer but it was starlancer I fell in love with. Freelancer was too "cartoony" for want of a better term, starlancer was gritty and "realistic" and the feel was just right.

Does anyone know if starlancer works with windows 7 as I'd love to play it again.

Unfortunately the game this most reminds me of is darkstar one, and that was pretty average.

This game is SO boring, oh look more fighters.... and more... and more, also your guns are naff!. Got bored by the third mission defending the transports

Don't expect, xwing, freelancer, freespace e.t.c

Played it a bit last night and while it's definitely not an AAA title it's not bad for £7. I need to tweak the controller sensitivity a bit as the standard isn't too great. The 'Slide' mechanic needs practise too.
X-wing had quite a few 'protect the transport' type missions too Neil and I loved that game, but if that's all their is in this game then that's a shame (I'm only on the 2nd mission).
The hacking mechanic is a little different, but it would be nice if they could add shield manipulation too.

True JeffH but this game seems to have an endless supply of enemies, you think you've saved one transport then it says another needs to be saved while throwing a constant stream of enemy fighters between each transport. You keep thinking finally i've done it mission over, no wait another transport another wave of enemies. Oh an enemy battleship and yawn more enemy fighters. The design of the ships are not exactly good either with you shooting balls of sweets

Gutted to hear its not that good, been hoping for a decent space trader/space battle game since the days of Freelancer. I cannot understand why they dont make these sort of games when you think of the popularity of sci-fi in general. Guess games companies are more interested in producing yet another dull fps.

Well I think X3 covers all this, shame this game seems a bit pants I was going to buy it. Have you tried X3? I am just finishing up Dead Space 2 and was going to see if I can handle the X3 learning curve.
