Sold my 8800...

I suppose it depends on what res your playing your games at more than anything, I'm on 1920x1200 and I would'nt accept nothing less than the 8800gtx to power my currunt batch of DX9 games, DX10 did'nt even enter my brain when I brought this card, I brought this card b-cos it was/is the fasted card out, simple as.
Same here, I bought my card because it was/is the fastest card available. NWN2 was struggling on my X1900XT (even at 1280x960), and I was planning on upgrading monitor to a 1920x1200 widescreen, so the 8800GTX was the obvious choice.

There's no way I'd sell it now, and make-do with a lesser card until something better comes along. I'm currently enjoying STALKER, which runs nice and smooth at Max settings, but I know my X1900XT would have struggled with this game.

Yeah, at the moment i'm at 650/800(1600DDR), hitting around 7K in 3Dmark '06. Absolutely no need for a 8800 at the moment.

Maybe once the R600 comes in and the 8800 falls in price. :)

Play stalker then you will see ;)

Pfft, I gave it a whirl on my 8800GTS 640MB I had previously. Not my cup of tea TBH. :)

Just a point there are plenty of games imo the x series of card ain't up to running in full eye candy unless you got crossfire ones, supreme commander is another oblivion springs to mind, no way in hell the x19 series cope with them on full and keep a good fps.

Reminds me when the A64 came out all you heard was there is no 64bit blah blah blah but peeps never bought em for the 64bit side they got em as they were sh** of a shovel, same with the 8800gtx its not the dx10 side for most.

Oh yeah, I completely agree, at 1680x1050 with 8+AA/16AF, even my 8800GTS 640MB I had previously struggled with SupCom and Stalker at times, so I know my X1900XT won't play those games at a quality level i'm happy with.

At the moment though i've got bored of all the latest games far too quickly, so it is just a question of finding a middle ground with what games you do play. I've personally only got my eyes set on CNC3 for the next few months and continuing to prawn at BF2142. Both games run 4xAA/16xAF @ 1680x1050 very well indeed. :)

I play at 1920x1200 and i found my single x1900xt-x was not really up to it...even older games like fear i had to knock down the detail settings and knock my res down to 1680x1050 to play..

where i have run all the games and demos i tryed so far at max settings on my 8800gtx and they run fine...

Wish had'nt got my 8800gtx; much prefer the IQ on my previous x1900xt. Might even go back tbh.

You are kidding, right? it is widely accepted that the 8800GTX equals and in many cases betters current ATI IQ. Whether that will be the case when the R600 is released remains to be seen.

There are factors that you simply can't weigh up on paper. Sometimes a card will just feel better.

I remember when I had a 9700 and changed to a 6800 and despite on paper being faster, i'd wished i'd of stuck with my 9700.

lol.

No... that was because it felt better... that was because the 6800 series did have worse IQ than the 9700, which is irrelevant to the point I was making. What I am talking about, if you've been reading any of it, is the fact that the 8800 series has introduced a new level of IQ previously unseen in Nvidia cards, and the comparisons between ATI and NV IQ are now moot. :)

Good experience with a company leads to customer loyalty; as well as factors such as customer support, tech support, driver support, community support which all play a big part in how a card will feel.

All those qualities are hardly things that can't be put down on paper... they are integral to any product. However i'm not sure how thats at all relevant as there are many Nvidia partners who offer the best service in the industry. BFG, EVGA etc...

We are talking about IQ here and the differences in performance between the cards... not comparing after-sales services.... which by the way have no discernible effect on the cards performance. lol.

I went from X1900XT to 8800GTX and there's no way I'd go back. I find the 8800 IQ to be equal to the XT in general, and superior at rendering distant textures and transparency AA.

I suppose you've tried different drivers, etc?

Look, I get the whole IQ aspect, the 8800GTX is on par, if not better than any ATi offering at the moment, i've read the reviews and just because I didn't previously mention it doesn't mean i'm dismissing or "haven't been reading."

What i'm getting at is that even though a card is better, it doesn't mean it will feel better. Like when you miss home or whatever, a luxurious mansion may be better, but it just isn't home. I can't explain it any better than that. :D
