So the wifes birthday is coming up and you know what they say, "happy wife, happy life". She dropped a hint the other day about buying her a camera but not any old camera, a digital SLR I think they are (you may have guessed, I have absolutely no idea about cameras).

I suppose what she needs is beginner friendly of a decent quality, what I need is relatively wallet friendly /cough £150 ish.

Is it even possible for that budget, I don't know but let me know what you think?

Cheers.

£400 is probably the bottom end for something worth having, the Nikon D3100 is about that with the current cashback offer, beginner friendly, good quality and a great intro.

I think you'll be looking at a bridge camera for that price, perhaps one with an 18x zoom which would cover most of the bases. You could suggest that it would let her get to grips with more advanced photography and find out if she really wants to invest in a proper DSLR.

I have an older version of the lumix, it is a nice little camera, it doesnt allow you to pop it in your trouser pockets but its good if you want a point and shoot and a camera you can mess around with on full manual, build quality is great, dont forget a SD card!
