I want to learn to play the piano, so I'm looking at getting a keyboard to start me off. I'm considering the Yamaha psre 303 and 403 models - anyone have any experience or advice to help me make a decision? Also are there any good sites/books that could help?

Not really up on keyboards at the moment, but if you are looking at one because you want to learn piano, I would suggest the most important things are full size weighted and pressure sensative keys and expression pedals.

I have a Yamaha Clarinova, bought it about 5 years ago at around £2500. Pressure keys, everything, very good, but like everything in life, you get what you pay for and it also depends on what you are willing to spend,
But get the best YOU can afford, full keyboard (88 keys)

Easy to use, sounds good, etc, floppy drive on it, the newer ones have USB as well, mine has Midi in and out as well, so can connect it to a whole host of items including the computer.

I have been playing Organ and Piano for over 28 or so years and recently started to learn RAG time music, and gee man,,,,,that aint easy at all. well not for my left hand anyhow!

enjoy and go try and load of different piano's / keyboards, find one that suits you.....

My main piano is a JSR 500 I think. Or something along those lines. It's by no means a top end piano but it's really good for me, no weighted keys but still plays and sounds fantastic.

As for beginners equipment, I also have a PSR-280 and I think it would be spot on for a beginner. I'm not expert but I'd assume the various other PSR models would be much of the same, and therefore really good to start on.

Hope there's some helpful info in there. :)

88 key models seem a little much as a starter, the plan is to learn the theory and get some practice on a smaller keyboard, and then go for something more serious later - I wouldn't want to spend serious money now incase I don't stick with it or can't find enough time. Is there any disadvantage with starting with a 61 key model?

The 203 has neither pressure sensitive or weighted keys.
The 303 has pressure sensitive keys, but is not weighted.
The 403 seems to be an uprated 303, but still is not weighted.
