Someone stole my NC10 from my car today.
Could this be traced by the mac address if someone uses it on the net.
I dont know it, but Samsung might from the serial number, that must be on the documentation, if that is possible.

well was on private property in my friend workshop no one around so didn't think to.
My bad really
emailing every seller on the bay of NC10 power supplies

Not possible mate. Nice idea, but not possible.
I know some IBM business series laptops had some sort of security chip in them.

I think it's lost mate.

Unlucky

To what end? I really think you should cut your losses. Maybe get insurance next time I guess.

to what end, if someone in this area orders a power supply would be worth following up with police having the info
have house insurance so might be covered

My opinion is the only way it could be traced now is that if someone tried to register at / get support at the Samsung website using your serial number. I doubt that Samsung offers a service whereby you can flag that a serial number has been stolen, but there's no harm in asking I guess.

This got me thinking. There must be software that you can pre-install that would allow you to track a computer in the event of it being stolen. I realise this isn't helpful now, but for future, if you Google "software to track your stolen laptop" you'll see what's available.

If I stole a laptop I would probably format it after seeing if theres anything good on it!

Reminds me of this software you can get for your phone that only allows authorised SIM cards and if it detects an unknown one it texts a number you set at installation.

If I was an ebay trader I would be very dubious about giving out my clients details.

Yeah no obligation on ebay or any other seller to pass out details od power supply sales.
I found those mettalic labels best, once on they impossible to get off without leaving residue.
There's also some dna type stuff you can put on your valuables, each one unique so useful to prove ownership.

All a bit late in this case tho.

Not unless something concrete. Cash Generators et al arent obliged to let Police or anyone else know when they recieve stuff.
Can allow Poolice to come in and check out stock, but thats on a voluntary basis by the store O nothing in law that forces them to .

Your wrong as my mum had her watch stolen and got it back as it was pawned, they where obliged to reveal the details of the person who took it in.
He is now gonna appear in court for the theft.
Obviuosly in my case no, but it was worth a try appealing to the shop owners better nature.

Yes but the Police must've known the goods were in the shop, the shop wouldnt just randomly contact the Police when something gets pawned.
The Police wont go trawling ebay for your nc10. Better if you do the legwork, find out who has it then let Police know. If they have any kind of probable cause they can then act.
