someone who Knows about cards please?

can buy a corsair cx400 and a 4870 for £112

+1, the only argument against the 4870 is it's power draw but this solves the problem.

his res is what he always moans about - he wants to go higher but cant for some reason. he knows nothing about cards - he just
likes mine cos i play wow and sims on 1920-1200 and he wants to be able to do the same on his games (or as close as he can)

His res is probably limited by the size of his monitor, do you know size screen he has?

BTW to link stuff it's very easy once you know know. Find the page you want to link and copy the URL. Go back the forum and look at where you type your post and you will see a blue globe with what looks like paper clip on it. Press that and paste the URL into the box and bingo! To make text link to page do the same but highlight the text you want to link, press the link button, paste the URL. :)

i cant remember if i ran the 4870 from that or not. ive always bought 500 + watt ones though.
it was in a case that ran an x1600 - sons older card
anyway looked inside and only things i can see is a small yellow sticker with this on it: Hi-POT ok and a
Warranty void if removed label that says s/n D54 43570 on it. oh and a little red thing on the back with 230v on it?
Hope that doesnt make me sound inane!

I think I speak for everyone when I say Hi-Pot = Crap-Pot. Don't risk trying to run a HD4870 or better on that PSU, its not so much the rating or amps but the 12v rail which supplies power to things like the CPU, hard drives, video cards, motherboard etc will likely be week and could fall over when stressed and it fails it can take your components with it. And I'm not saying this to scare you either it's all 100% true, cheap PSU's are a false economy and bloody dangerous when used in gaming systems (or any system that uses a lot processing power).

Being a 32” LCD the resolution is most like to be 1378x768 or 1920x1080, either way a HD4870 will do the job nicely.

ok that almost worked.. bleh, linked the wrong card tho! hmmm, that one looks nice too!

ok so anyway are we all agreed now on me buying a not too expensive "be on the safe side" psu and one of those two 460's?
