I think it is a bit tight. Depending on exactly how the numbers were chosen, the friend appears to have directly lead to the ticket becoming a winning ticket.
Without their influence they would not have won.
I would like to think that I would have checked them the change of around £300k. £2m is plenty to live off, if invested wisely.

Considering the staggering honesty of the friend in actually informing the other that they won the lottery instead of just keeping the winning ticket for themself, I would personally have given much more. Maybe even split it 50:50.

lol the friend bought the ticket and help pick the numbers and only got 50k!!!! what a greedy ****. I would have gave half to the firend.

The person who paid the £1 took all the risk, the other person didn't contribute any skill. Therefore they don't deserve anything more than a few quid as a thanks for buying the ticket. 50k is more than fair.

If the friend is being ungrateful then you should get the money back and buy new friends.

if the friend who won diddnt win, would the person who gave her the numbers refund some of the loss? no. so in my eyes 50k is good for a game of luck

Don't see the problem to be honest, the guy isn't eligible and the woman bought the ticket and won. The guy couldn't claim it even if he wanted to, and without her couldn't have won it anyway as he wouldn't have entered.
50:50 is more than fair.

Yes. And I'm sure a lot of the people saying "I'd split it 50/50 if I'd won" would do nothing of the sort if they actually won.

As much as I'd like to keep it all, I would say 50/50 split is fair for both of them.
I just think 50k is way too low to give someone who bought you the ticket, because without that person buying the ticket you wouldn't have any winnings at all. Afterall, £1.15m each is better than having nothing. (Which would have been the case if she didn't buy the ticket for him.)

Whatever the answer I think the moral here is to always buy your own ticket to avoid this kind of dilemma in the first place.

One of my friends won the lottery almost 6 years ago now, completed my parents mortgage, got us a new car, a holiday to Sicily and a new gaming computer 
My opinion is the person bought the ticket and didnt even have to give the guy who "won" anything as he didnt actually purchase the ticket himself.
only 50k to the person who went out and bought the ticket? i bet they wish they never let on the guy had won....
it doesnt sound like he even knew the numbers
