Just heard from our closest friend that her son Nick (also my sons best mate) got into an altercation last night in Kingston. 2 groups of lads, started out OK with a bit of banter and no doubt the demon drink reared its head because the other group attacked Nicks group and fisticuffs started.

Nick tried to pull one of his mates away from the danger but was hit himself, fell down and struck his head on the kerb. All this was seen on CCTV monitor and emergency services called. After being transferred from Kingston Hospital Nick is now in St.Georges having had neurosurgery.

All seems well ATM, he woke up OK, has full recall and is chatting and joking! Still in ICU but maybe transferred to a ward this afternoon. Scrotes duly arrested and in custody. Dare not tell my son who is in NY, they've known each other since they were babies.

Seems like mayhem stalks our streets.

Yeah the most shocking thing about this, is that this sort of thing is no longer shocking to most people. Happens all too often.

Hope the guy makes a full recovery.

Sounds like a bad thing to happen to this Nick guy, but surely you should tell your son. Would imagine he might want to know lol.

"The OP's son might want to know he friend is in intensive care unit laugh out loud"

What the hell is funny about that?

the town at night is like the wild west these days, i always expect to have some trouble in a pub or on the long walk home

If you don't want to crack your head open don't fight, surely? Drunken fights are never so cherry-coated, there are ways to avoid antagonists and they don't involve any tricks.

Sorry if that seems a bit cold but it's hard to have compassion for someone that either gets themselves involved with fights (ever heard of walking away?) or hangs around with those who like to.

The result is consequential. I hope he learns from it.

Ive seen fights start completely from nothing. The other people have just defended themselves

That's horse ****. My mate was murdered simply because some tool was going to fight with someone at the end of the night and it just happened to be my mate he singled out.

There are times when you simply cannot avoid getting in a fight.

I was in a club years ago and was standing beside my brother talking away to some bird when two fellas walked out of the crowd and started lamping my brother. I in turn started lamping the hell out of them before being kicked and punched to the ground by both of them and having my head jumped on.

Sometimes you cannot just "walk away".

Il come down to tooting broadway and bring him a lovely curry to welcome him to the area.

Hope he is ok.

No matter how much I have wanted to floor someone when out if they started baiting for a response, I have never acted on that urge even though Im not normally drunk when I go out compared to these baiters. Better to let the other person with his mate win the high moral ground and all go home safe, even if it is a group of 3/4 of you vs 2 others. You never know how you might fall with one punch or what they may be carrying.

Sad state of affairs these days :(
