Is there something wrong with my gaming pc? In my sig are my specs. + my monitor is running at 1900x1200 res

I have been noticing lately that games arnt running that smoothly (im not sure if it was like this ages ago but now im purposly looking for it if you get me) Games like Age of conan seem to be getting around 45-58 FPS in starting areas and stuttering/lagging now and then.

Today i bought cities XL and find the screen to be slightly jerky and fps around 35-40 on max settings (with 4AA)

A few weeks back i bought risen and im only getting 40-59 on max (okay thats high lol but odd places the fps just gets raped) rather than running smoothly and fps drops off slowly.. (if you get me)

Lord of the rings online runs around 50-60 fps but stutters every few feet.. (max dx10)

Dragon age origins gets around a steady 60fps but in built up areas 30-40fps

Now i KNOW i may be being picky here lol as i know i have a high end pc but does all that sound normal to you with my set up? if so ill shut up :P I just get the feeling the games above i should be ripping through them with my pc with not random fps drops and low FPS in areas.

Can any one suggest any programs i can run that will tell me if there are problems with my hardware? GPU stress tests that tell you errors, or CPU stress tests tat tell you if its running upto strach etc. Thank you if you can give any help :) - Adam warren

Also something else i have noticed. when ever i install a game, while its installing my pc freezes and wont allow me to do that much. E.g i was installed dragon age origins two days ago and tryed to open I.E 8 and a picture folder. Both of these tasks didnt work untill the game had nearly finished installing. then they suddenly poped up. I dont remember this happening untill a few months ago. This also happens when installing random programs (not just games)

The games you mention (MMO's) can be very CPU and Memory intensive specially in crowded areas and where there's lots of spell effects going around. I don't think it's your graphics card that's lowering them down.

Age of conan disable all the advanced DX10 shadows and put normal shadows to low or off.

My GTX 480 struggles when shadows are on with this game.

LOTR find the config file and make sure the fps is set to 60 or 59 this solved the stuttering i had when playing this.

why are you using DX9?
DX10 is way better, confused?
You have a 5870 DX10-11 ?
There are loads of options in AOC to alter,i suggest you sit down and adjust a few as it took my a good half hour to get decent settings for me.

lol i dont think dx 10 likes me! the fps drops from 59 (dx 9) to around 20-25 ... unless i lower slides and it makes the game look worse than dx 9 IMO :(

p.s does your dx 10 on AOC say DX 10 test?... maybe that has something to do with it. like maybe i havnt got it fully installed.. i only have the demo :(

EDIT: heres the proofy :(

as you can see theres not much diffrence apart from the FPS! Which drops (ive removed most of the dx 10 test options) a hell of a lot compared to dx 9 with little if no diffrence :(
