ok, here's the story - basically i have a lovely 40" sony w4000 which got water damaged about 6 months ago. I took it to my dad's who managed to get someone to fix it finally a few weeks ago. In the mean time i've been using a 32" toshiba £300 jobbie which has been fine for my xbox 360 etc.

So i'm down at my dad's for xmas and brought the xbox for some fifa 10 family battles. Just plugged it in yesterday to the sony looking forward to going back to some glorious 40" full hd gaming and.....GHOSTING...seriously the ghosting was fairly noticeable compared to my 32" toshiba. Admittedly i got used to it after a game or two, but it was definitely there.

So i'm wondering - is it possible that the ghosting is a result of the water damage and not getting 'properly' fixed. Or is it simply that the toshiba (which has a 'game mode' or something) is actually better for games than the sony? I had planned to swap back to the sony when i move into my new flat but now i think i might have to get something new!!

What exactly did the guy do when it got repaired? Change of circuitry or similar? I am a bit surprised it could go from perfectly fine to lots of ghosting without an underlying cause.

yeah, in fact it seems like when it gets warmed up a bit it defo gets better. So it's probably what the problem is. I'm hoping that storing it in the garage for another month or two won't do any long term damage, will it?

They usually cope well, although I have never stored anything long term in the cold. Just don't poke it when its like this as not great. It is just taking the chemicals inside the lcd longer to rotate around as they have less energy with which to do it.
