Sony and Panasonic 2010 Range

The Panasonics are shaping up to be very nice screens - given they've now got a good number of the ex-Pioneer engineers working for them it's a safe bet that a good number of their latest screens will in effect Kuros in disguise :D

They are just that and not even in disguise, i don't think even Panasonic make any secret about the screens basically being Kuro screens.

The Panny 2010 range does look very impressive indeed, so ill be keeping a keen eye on these. :)

Sony have also moved to LED egde and back lit options with the new range, so it should fix the clouding problems that some sets have with CCFL backlights.

Going by Phil Hintons chat with panasonic @ CES, the Panasonic gave a nice smile and certainly didn't deny the new sets being essentially a Kuro.

It goes to show how far ahead of the rest of the sets they really were ;):p

HDMI 1.4 will also be required for 3d TV.

Borich

A 1.4 cable, because it has the twister pair, but the actual sockets yes/no. You see the difference between a 1.3 port and a 1.4 port is the enabled feature set, they both have the same physical connections. Provided the hardware has the processing power, theoretically, any 1.3 should be able a run 3d via a firmware upgrade. In reality the only device to receive such an update will probably be the ps3 but then again you don't need to buy another blu-ray player :)

Seems even panny can't bring kuro screen prices down that much tho :(

lets just hope they are not kuro prices and all will be fine

Panasonic have always covered the full spectrum of prices, look at the prices of the 2009 Z series sets. They were also getting pretty close to Kuro blacks even before Pioneer gave up plasma, and Panasonic greatly reduced the power usage of Plasma panels in 2009. If they are adding Kuro like tech into their 2010 panel its going to be outstanding, the combination of Panasonics power efficient panel, with kuro blacks, and Panasonics outstanding scalers.. well thats a very good combo.

To keep prices down Panasonic generally use the same panels across the full range of TV's (look at the 2009 PDP's) the G10, V10 and Z1's all used the same physical panels, but the V10 had improved features over the G10 (and about 40% higher price), and the Z1's were ultra thin with a separate media box.. and about 5 times the price!
