Hi there,

I can upgrade, well get a new phone, come thursday and was thinking of getting the sony p990i, has anyone on here got one and can confirm this is a good/bad phone etc.?

If not can anyone recommend me a phone that would also be a good idea to get/wait for ?

Cheers

Goody

Hey,

I'm in exactly the same situation. I'm definately going to get this phone, despite having flaws it does seem very good.

Only problem is finding a contract for it. I cancelled O2 because i have poor reception in my house.

I've found a deal on vodafone (500mins 500txt) for £40 a month, but the phone will cost £100. What do people think? I could pay £50 a month and get the phone for free but there is something the word "50" thats scares me!

Get it on the £50 a month one and drop it down to the £40 one after 6 months, will work out the cheapest bet for you :)

My girlfriend has this phone and likes it a lot, however she prefers my phone (the Vario 2, also known as an HTC Tytn) as do I. The P990i appears to be geared mostly for business whereas the Vario 2 is both a business phone and a great media device. I think you'll be pleased with either though but possibly happier with the P990i if you're using for business. :D

N95 is out Q1 next year so probably March, possibly January. Its vastly superious to the SE990, I'd wait, the P990 to much of a brick for me.

vastly superior in what sense? And im not at all bothered with camera function

I dont want to wait around until next year thats too long, thought the n95 might be out next month or something not next year

Also like the look of the nokia 8800 sirocco (currently have a 8800 and love it) but i dont fancy paying a lot of money for one, like i did for my current phone, but is there no other phones out at the moment that are a bit special ?

I realy fancy the p990i though to be honest i just thought there may be a few bugs with them being new and everything

I would also get it on voda £50pm and the handset for free*

*Please no comments about the phone not actualy being free !

Snap goody!

I got the nokia 8800 aswell, i was tempted to get the sirocco aswell, but think about it, it looks slighter sexier but essentially it's the same phone, apart from the camera.

So, ill get a P990 and keep my 8800, best of both worlds.

Im a P990i owner, have been for the past few months...got mine sim free and was one of the first to get it i think.

Anyways lovely phone and the inbuilt keyboard is brilliant and a joy to use. As for being a brick??, i can assure you its not that big a brick..funny how people say it is but have never actually held one or seen one in real. I have mine in my back pocket and i have to admit its pretty unobtrusive.

Other than that its a lovely phone/pda and works great although has a few bugs but they are being slowly sorted out. The WIFI and 3G works brilliantly and is very fast at browsing, the inbuilt web browser is also a joy to use.

Get one you wont be disappointed...the N95 looks like a nice phone but is definitely not a p990i killer as its completely different. I do like the specs of the n95 but ill wait till there are real life reviews on the unit...

You are joking! Its a generation behind, surely you must see that?! Of course its down to the delays and more delays sadly. Smaller, thinner, faster CPU, more memory, better camera and video recording functionality, TV Out, 3.5mm earphone slot etc.

Hopefully SE have something up their sleeves ie a nice dressed up M600i/W950i with wifi and camera - now that would be nice. However that GPS function on the N95 looks very tempting, the battery life may be its biggest downfall tho. I await the reviews.

Have you seen the dimensions of the N95 its also a bit of a brick.

Yeh kinda, but pretty amazing for the functionality - its 1.8mm thinner than the N80.

Yeah, but it's also a nokia, and after most of the recent bilge that Nokia have been putting out, I wouldn't hold my hopes too high for it being any good ;)

Not to mention the fact that most of what you cite as useful isn't of much interest to P series users....

Yeah, that's because the P series are purely business orientated whereas the N series are geared for multimedia usage. You're better off comparing the P series with Nokia's E series, since they are both business ranges.

So a P series user wouldnt want "Smaller, thinner, faster CPU, more memory with TV Out"??! ;)

Id want a faster, smaller, thinner cpu with more memory as a P series user...TV out??...nope not interested in that and i think you will find all P series users have absolutely no desire to have it. If they do then they have the wrong phone tbh. The P series is a purely a business phone, its NOT a multimedia packed phone...hell the camera on it isnt that great..in fact its terrible tbh but then i dont use the p990i camera, thats what my k800i is used for:p

I have recently returned to SE after recent foray with nokia, (N70 & N80) Unless nokia have really sorted theirselves out i cant see myself going back to them, phones are far too buggy and cant even seem to do the basic things right.

Tbh i cant see myslef using the half the functions of my P990i let alone the functions on soemthing like the N95, I havent even turned on the wifi on my phone, cant see the point of it tbh, it just kills the battery.

Thats what gets me about some of the newer phones, they have gadgets galore but the batteries are still rubbish, id rather get an extra day out of the battery than have some utterly pointless as tv out (when would you even need this?)

I wish phone companies would make sure the phones worked in the 1st place before rleasing them, my N70 still has the worlds worst BT implementation, and thats inexcusable for a phone of this nature.

The idea is so that you can view content on your phone on a TV. So rather than passing around your phone to show your mates the pics/vids you took of a night out, you just hook it up to the TV and see it in a decent size.
