In this week’s EGM Live Podcast, Dan Hsu, editor of EGM, revealed that he had caught wind of the fact that Sony was going to call their copy and pasted achievement system “entitlements”.

The very fact that Sony has ripped off another original idea from a competitor shows the state of the industry right now, as it looks like everyone is copying and pasting each other and creating generic consoles alongside the games that went generic a long time ago.

Live
Motion Pads
Wireless pads
Now Achievements

360 = Achievements, PS3 = Entitlements

They really are getting lame

Christ, you'd be complaining if they didn't have a simular feature, complaining if they "copy"... Get your head out of your ****ing ****.

Though it is something else we can add to the good old PS3 Xbox 360 fanboy debate, I don't see a problem in it, hey, it's good for MS as it shows that Sony are struggling for ideas a little, but at the end of the day, Sony have to create an online system to compete with Xbox Live, and to do that, there is only really so much an offline player will be able to do. Sure, they could just not implement the feature, but you'd get a whole load of PS3 players moaning that they can't get their silly e-penis points.

I wish people would stop accusing Sony of stealing ideas, its just sad. For a start, they had the idea for the controller about 12 years ago and patented it in 1999. Anyway, its not even the same as the Wii controller, anyone with a brain can see that.

And wireless pads?? Its an obvious progression of games console controllers. Would you prefer them to be wired? No.

The online service is not a direct copy of Live either, thats a typical Xbox fanboy view. Theres only so many ways which you can do an integrated online service, and it is inevitable that it will share a lot of similarities with Live. Unless you prefer the PS2 online service, which was not very impressive.

Its strange that nobody has complained of Microsoft copying the PS2 controller for the Xbox 360, due to the similarities in the button layout. But of course, they didn't 'copy', since having the buttons in a radically different configuration would be very impractical.

Baine, you need to stop being such a fanboy and think about things in more detail, instead of taking everything at face value. Don't believe everything you hear/read either. (I am of course refering only to your views about Playstation and Xbox)

I think some things smack of 'idea theft', but lets face it, a good idea will pass from company to company in almost any market you can imagine. It's just a shame that often, Sony implement their 'borrowed' ideas in a way a little too close to the original.

Don't forget Sony's innovations either - I'm sure MS have looked to Sony to see how best to take over a 'can't be broken' market from the presiding giants.

Oh god, who cares if it's a stolen idea or not. All that matters is how good it is. Personally, I'm not a fan of the achievements system, but going by the numerous threads on here about it, they clearly work.

The amount of anti-Sony, pro-360 nonsense on here these days is incredibly irritating. Would it really hurt people to be a bit more objective?

In the REAL world its adapting and using existing ideas that pushes things forward. The "its copying" attitude gets left behind round about the time you leave High School.

Haha, copying.

Working in engineering, we find something we like, buy it, dissect it and borrow anything useful from it.

Happens in every single market, not just consoles.

AMD vs Intel? Intel now offers: performance over clock speed with lower heat output at lower costs.

This type of stuff happens non stop. Can't wait for MS to steal the PSP idea and let us get achievements on their thing.

only if you achieve a bigger e-penis as well i guess.

They can steal what they want if its a good idea :) But if its still as expensive as they say its going to be, they can shove it.

There was a "motion" controller release on PC bout 10 years ago, and the Atari had a "motion" stick aswell, so its hardly new.

But the rest of your arguement i agree with :)

Just would be nice if sony came up with some of the innovations for once.

Thats whats got me worried, that Sony the market leader hasn't shown any creative ideas/innovations for a long time. Just the same old stuff and borrowed ideas.
