Mine finally arrived yesturday, are many other people here using this phone? im wanting to know what sort of battery life i should expect from it

ive loaded on approx 2gigs of music now and its not slowed it down at all, surfing through the menu's in the player is still as quick as when i only
had a few albums on it, not sure whether it will slow down if i fill up the HDD totally?

the touch screen is amazing as well, the last touch screen phone i had was the p800 and that was absolutely awful

any tips/quirks i should know about it?

at the moment im totally loving it, very glad i waited to upgrade to this phone :D

oh incase anyone was wondering what tarrif im on, i got the phone free on orange, 450mins, 800txts, £30 per month

I thought the cost of the handset was £49.99 on that tariff?

EDIT - I can't even find that tariff?

its a normal tarrif but with double txts, so it only normally comes with 400 txts, you get a bonus to 800 this month because its a holiday deal, the holiday thing isnt available in the shops, only if you order it online/over the phone, thats what the woman told me, and yes the handset was definately free, not £50 :)

Great phones, so much nicer to use than most other "smart" phones on the market. You can turn 3G off for much better battery life, I only occasionally use it for internet use to turn it on for that only.

Tools > Control Panel > Connections > Mobile Networks > More > GSM/3G Networks > GSM Only.

The W950 M600 and P990 are almost identical with software so most tips n tricks from the other two will work fine with yours.

Two good sites for info:
All about symbian
My symbian

You want the UIQ 3.0 sections ;)

getting on quite well with mine now. just a matter of getting used to the changes in how do do things, in comparison to my previous SE phones).

i have only had mine a week, and the battery has lasted about 4 days with average usage of the phone (few phone calls, multiple texts, use as alarm clock most days with snooze for about an hour) and fairly heavy use of the walkman. i also have the 3g thingy set so that when available it is connected, but coverage isnt too hot where i am so that is intermittent.

just disabled my 3g will let you know if it helps battery life, been using mine for a few weeks now.

texting can be a bit of a chore on this mobile.

so intuitive to use though! Sending 'scribbled' mms' with multipul pages is fun, and the album browsing and media interface is just like using a PC if not better.

You can skip halfway into songs, sort by all sorts of means etc etc lovley for calls and music, shame about the texts.

i'm afraid i don't like it

my colleague has one, its lightweight and stuff but i just don't get on with UIQ

I went to have a play with one before I decided upon the K800i.
Seemed nice enough, however personally:

1. No camera. I'm not saying that is the biggest issue in the world but it is a feature that is so useful. You never know when you might want/need a camera and what are the chances of you having your digital camera on you...your phone on the other hand...

2. Just didn't like the keypad.

Other than that it seemed a nice piece of kit.
I'll however wait for "Version 2" so to speak which I'm sure will re-introduce the camera, make the unit smaller or the same size and hopefully go back to a more traditional keypad...oh and will hopefully be available in about a years time.

Well I went for the M600i, it's a nicer keyboard for typing a lot of stuff in but you loose the upgraded media player stuff and the radio.

I charged the battery up via USB in work on Thursday at 6pm to 95%, I've turned 3g off but had bluetooth on the whole time, made about 15 mins calls per day and a few texts, now on Tuesday morning the battery is down to 2%. Not bad for a smart phone really. My old K750i would have done maybe one more day.

Got mine yesterday, and after the first few hours of the initial "What the hell have i signed up to for 18 months, I now love it".

Best bit is if you use Audiograbber or similair to copy a cd and you have it create the play list as well copy the lot into the phone and then rescan it, it finds the playlist and it works, not like my old Nokia 6320 where i had to create a playlist with the Nokia software. Time consuming and a pain.

Using the cocktail stick to write texts soon becomes second nature with the on screen keyboard. Hardest part is learning the new menu system after two Nokia phones.

I love it. If you want to take pictures buy a camera. :D

A successor to the W950 (codenamed 'Melinda') is due to be announced by spring/summer 2007. Main difference will be the addition of a 3.2 megapixel camera.

I thought it was Codenamed 'Maria', I thought the 'Melinda' is based on the K310...

Which ever it is, I'd be very interested!... I like the K800 but the memory is too small/non existent, 4Gb is a nice way to go, especially as you don't have to buy any extras to get it!

just bought one a w950i today and first impressions are very good, although writing texts took some getting used to at the start. I have a bit of a dumb question for you tho... I've transfered some albums and pictures onto the phone from my pc but dont seem to be able to access them :S I can play the music in the walkman but i dont seem to be able to access the files from the phone or view the pictures at all. Can someone please tell me where it stores them. thanku
