Done a search, but now I'm a bit more confused!

I currently have a 6800LE AGP (128MB DDR) graphics card, and I'm running it OC'd to 350 core and 800 memory (Defaults are 300 and 700). I've tried to unlock the extra pipes, but they're all damaged so I'm kinda stuck with it.

It scores 2300 in 3dMark05.

Now, I can't run most of my games at my TFT panels native 1280 X 1024, at least not with AF etc, so I'm looking for a bit more.

I want to stay AGP for now until DX10/AM2 etc is out and settled down, so looking for it to last me 9 mths to a year.

So, I looked at the 7800GS, but I'm baulking at the price a bit. The BFG 6800GS looks good value, and I'm sorely tempted.

My question though (at last!), is whether the 6800GS is a good step up from the LE? The GS has 4 more guaranteed pipes, and is clocked a bit higher stock, and should OC a bit more too?

Or, do I find another £80 or so and go for a 7800GS? I'm thinking it might be overkill for my max resolution anyway?

Help!

PS P4 3.2 Ghz, 1GB Ram are other specs in my existing system...

I think the 6800GS & X850XT are better value for money than the 7800GS.
Both should serve you well & are improvements over your current card.

Tough call. It's a rather subjective thing to ask if it is worth it. You'll certainly see a fair improvement even at stock speeds and the 6800gs overclocks pretty well. I also see that the BFG ones are on offer this week. If you don't want to shell out 200 notes or more on a 7800gs, i think that the BFG 6800gs OC is right on the money at the moment and it'll probably see you through till the new year no problem.

If you can afford it, i'd recommend the 7800GS. As you're running OC'd, certainly go for the 7800GS over the X850 and 6800U. When OC'd, it's a beast, and pulls away from the others.

Hope this helps.
