A friend of mine has just brought one of these and is having problems with drivers. The driver's that came on the CD work perfectly fine but the new Nvidia drivers drop every games performace to about 8FPS. Has anybody else had this problem and how did you get around it ?

Many Thanks

Chris

Yeah, he can use the drivers but like everybody would like the new ones. He's an engineer for a WELL known IT company in Nottingham so I know he's using the correct drivers.

Aren't they all made in the same factory anyway? I had a cheapo Powercolour X800 Pro and not only did the extra pipes unlock fine on it but it ran overclocked for years without a problem with a 3rd party cooler. Same deal with my Connect3D X1800 XT - good clocker and still going strong. Also had no problems with OcUK branded 8800 GTS.

Of course whether the backup is there should you need the warranty may be another matter entirely though, but I think the cards themselves are usually fine.

Are the drivers in question 169.04 betas for vista 32-bit by any chance? I found them hopeless, although the XP variety seemed fine.

I once torched a sparkle Geforce 256 ... and it doesnt even burn well.

I can only assume dodgy bios or something.

well i had similar issues

i put my inno3d gt in with latest drivers (169.04) and got 10k in 3dmark 2001 (yes im using 01 lol)

just off chance after seeing this thread installed the cd drivers and now it scores 39k in 3dmark 01

i think its a system issue as ive been through 2 boards (p35 and x38) and 4 different graphics cards (ati x2400, x1950pro, 8400gs and now the 8800gt in the same install

will format and reinstall later (been a bit busy today)

In fairness powercolor are a good brand of card and in fairness there like marmite they either do or dont, in other words they dont clock atall or the card unlocks clocks and flies with pink pigs lol! nothing like sparkle who have had a tradgic line of cards IIRC.

PS. GIGABYTE 8800GT, vista and 169.04 and no problems here.

Hi mate, what motherboard is your friend using?

Hi

My ocuk one turned out to be a sparkle one and downloaded the 169.02 driver and had no issues since.
