I'm not entirely sure why this bothers me as much as it does, and my god this annoys me a lot, but the University of Southampton has decided that the dolphin logo must go :(

The uni thinks that the dolphin is too modern compared to logos from other unis in the Russell group and a new logo needs to reflect the stature of the university on the world stage, especially as foreign students are very lucrative.

So out with the old:

And in with the new:

"The dolphin logo was introduced in November 1990 and was chosen because of its links with the sea, friendliness and intelligence."

Seems as though we don't want those traits anymore, so we'll go to an instantly forgettable logo :(

I know I'm being overly sentimental, but we have a decent logo and it's soon to be squandered.

So what do you think?

It's the fact that this will literally cost millions to change the physical logos on vehicles, signs and stationary, and even more to build up a brand around the new logo that really bothers me :(

I hope the student voice gets heard - I think most are against the new one according the the susu forums.

This has most defienly been keep reasonably quiet within the uni. A significant number of students don't even know about it :(

The dolphin logo looks terrible tbh.

Why don't you like it? Do you like the new one?
