Sound Card worth buying. Unsure of what to get.

The merits of decent Hi-Fi are obvious, but I can't help wondering whether the time, effort and skills used to create stunning sound quality on our favourite CDs is something game designers bother with. I am not saying games can't have killer sound quality or that some don't. My point is do games warrant the expense of a so called premium, sound card. More to the point will the sound quality "in game" be any better than the HD Audio on my current GA-P35-DQ6. I am not interested in MP3 abilities but genuine in game performance piped through to my Home Theatre via Coaxial or optical.

Thanks
