setting this up for a friend and having trouble, on my machine (using a 4850) it was as simple as plug and play but it seems not here, the sound menus in both windows and Realtek HD audio manager do not register the HDMI as an output, anyone know where i can find the setting to enable it??

thanks in advance

(ps mods, dunno where to put this so will this do?)

I thought that you had to run a lead from the video card to the sound card to route the sound. I haven't hooked mine up but I think my GTX 280 has connector on the side of it for this purpose.

using onboard sound, my ati does it itself, it can route the audio through the card and through the DVI slot through an adapter then through an hdmi cable and out through the tv speakers

Nvidia cards require you to run a patch cable (similar to old CD-ROM to Soundcard style) from your sound card to card.

ATI have built in 7.1, so is native.

Hope that helps.
