Soundcard for quality sound for music and games?

If you ppl been reading my other thread knows Im having trouble getting the sound sounding right since upgrading from the logi z680 pc speackers to a amp and bookshelfs.

Atm Im using a x fi xtrememusic, and was just wondering if theres any better cards without braking the bank?

I upgraded from an Audiy 4 to an Asus Xonar DX and noticed a hell of a difference in everything. I mainly use headphones though (because they sound so much better than my speakers) but i'm sure it will perform equally as well with an amp.

The Xonar's seem to be the cards of choice right now.

Is the Xoner D2 any diff to the D1 in sound quality terms, and hows the driver support?

Edit: just noticed the DX is only a few more £ then the D1,, what card guys gives the best SQ out of the 3?

Xonar D2/X has DTS output and also using four PCM1796 24-bit Burr-Brown DACs which handle outputting any digital signals for clearer sounds.

I was in the same position as you a few weeks ago and went for D2X and i'm glad i did.

The different between D2 and D2X only the connections
