Was hoping i could get some advice please...
I have just made the leap from console gaming to PC which i have to say has been an awesome experience!! I have built a nice rig but am having a few set up probs regarding the sound....
Other than work, my main use is gaming and watching movies predominately mkv files...
My system is an Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (3.80GHz)
Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI -express
GFX Card is a ATI 5870
For A/V and sound i have it connected to my Onkyo amp 5.1 set up via a hdmi cable.
Even though i have toyed with the settings i cant seem to get high quality surround sound through the set up. Especially noticeable when i play the MKV files. Is this due to the limitations of the on board sound through the motherboard?
Would i need to get a dedicated soundcard to unleash the potential of the system. I was looking at an ASUS 1.3 deluxe but could do withough dropping £180 unless i really have to..
I understand that the GFX card has an integrated HD audio controller capable of 7.1 over HDMI and it supports AC3, AAC Dolby True HD and DTS ...
The interface on the motherboard that is provided is the Realtec system
For gaming i have been using the speedlink medusa nx 5.1 headset which is awesome but again when i try and play any games through the amp i just dont get a decent sound even when i crank up the volume on the amp.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
