South Africa

Yep I was born in Port Elizabeth. Moved here about 12 years ago now but miss my home country dearly. I go back for holidays every so often, it is just such a shame that the country is in ruins in many places :(

Know any of the chokka boat fishermen from Jeffreys by any chance?

South African here, born and bred in Port Elizabeth. Been in the UK for 6 years and just recently got my dual citizenship.

Love it here! As someone previously said, as much as people moan here, things just work. Wish SA would get their act into gear, It really could be a version of Australia if there wasn't crime, corruption, goverment innefficiency

Have a month holiday there booked in March :) Haven't been to see the folks in 3 years now so really looking forward to it.

I grew up in cape town, table view. spent 13 years there from 7-21.

In leytonsone there is this shop that sells six packs of black label, amstel (sa kind), castle, windhoek, savanah as well as south african wines. It is illegal to import and sell these beers in this country. It costs about £7.99 i think it was for a six pack of glass bottles. They also sell wors but it is frozen and made in the midlands. My local butcher in romford can make wors to the order and you can get it fresh for £10 a kg, expensive.. There is a good south african shop in chandlers ford that sells wors and biltong but you won't get black label there.

good for the summer going to get some black labels and some fresh wors... make my neighbours jealous :D

ahh my mistake. when i was in an SA hospital during one trip over there a bloke litterally carried his unconcious mate into the ward, dropped him on the bed and slurred the words black label, turned round opened a fresh can and stumbled back out.

Windhoek is nice, castle and lion I never enjoyed. South African Amstel is my second favourite.

I quite like Castle a bit more than Amstel, but both are nice imo :P

you can buy savanah in sainsburys, I also think weatherspoons now sell it in 500ml bottles.
I think you right also I think Libl does as well.

Yeah man England is awesome! I agree with you about SA man such a beautiful country just a bit of a shame really, but still proud I'm a SA boy :P

Brilliant about your holiday I bet its going to be great :D

all these "proud" south africans who havent been back to their country in years and have no desire in staying and trying to improve the country they supposedly love.

So whats the plan? you wait till it's either broken beyond repair and never move back, or hope that the people that have stayed and are trying to work towards a better SA fix it so you can move back and reap the rewards?

Gotta say SA is probably better off without you, and probably always will be!

btw beautiful day in joburg today, gonna finish work early, fire up the braai and sink some black labels by the pool...

Another kak day in Africa!

Maybe if i win the lottery i will buy some land on the east coast or a nice house(B&B) in plettenberg bay and live the rest of my days..

South africa specifically cape town. can be a realy nice place to live if you have loads of money and you like that type of life style.

I am interest to know how my work prospects have increased now that i have some big name corporations on my CV from working in London. Maybe i could go back and get a job in cape town city doing what i do in london and earn R30000 a month and be able to live a comfortable life.

WOW that must be a contender for the most ignorant post of the year award...wait for it.....wait....here it comes.... feel it's wrath!

Not everyone can find work there and put up with the crime and blatant government slackness any longer, well done you in that case.

My eldest brother does exactly that, he has a B&B on the beach just outside Plett (Keurboomstrand) - lovely place.

I'd like to retire if it manages to sort it's self out, but life prospects in the UK are infinitesimally better here for me. Settling in the UK, family and all that jazz, and if I can afford it, retire in Camps Bay (lol, I wish!).

Gf certainly was confused as to why I moved to London after we visited my parents for 3 weeks in December.

I totally agree with you, he really is a joke...lol

It is a beautiful place though :D

+1. I moved here because I sat without a job for 2 years and didn't have much of a choice. I wouldn't go back now just because life here is a lot easier than life there. A lot of what people have said in this thread are comments on how things are there, and you cannot deny that they are not true? He lambasts us for merely talking about our country which we do in fact love but cant help point out some of its downfalls. Well done him.

The "rats on a sinking ship" has been done to death. Find a new line.
