He is spot on IMO, I strongly disagreed with it at the time and still disagree with this charity now. They presented a list which had the names of every player who had donated and that was well out of order. People are gonna come out with the usual footballers are overpaid stuff but that doesn't matter one bit. I'm sure there are many footballers donate to charity but because they don't take the media along with them or tell the public they don't get that credit. Maybe they don't want the attention because not everybody wants to let everyone know that they are giving to charity. I don't even know why Nurses are even getting this in the first place, there are far more deserving causes out there.

There are countless numbers of footballers who donate to charity and carry out charity work on behalf of their club. It's usually local work too. The majority of them don't do it for the attention 'oh look at me helping these sick children' but do it because they want to give something back to the local community that support them. There are a number of schemes undertaken by all the Premiership clubs that go unnoticed in the media. And clubs will involve the star players all the way down to the unknown youth players. But it has always been much easier publishing an unfounded story mocking footballers for their high wages.

IIRC there was a documentary about this following some woman about as she tried (and mostly failed) to get every footballer to give a days wage.

Crap TV programme, not the most deserving cause, but you can't knock charities unless they are total scams really.

Hasn't GS got more important things to worry about:p

Gareth Southgate said:
"I think it's outrageous that the campaign's fundraising style has bordered on blackmail, with the message being basically 'give us your money or we'll publicly shame you'."
Absolutely spot on. It's a charity that has acted completely inappropriately and totally unprofessionally.

Indeed couldn't agree more with all the posts so far.

Charity is always a good idea, and donations are always a good thing to a needy cause.

Effectively naming and shaming those that don't give you money?

Ridiculous.

No person should be forced into a position where they should have to give money.

There's been a whole lot of sense made in football over the past couple of days. First a punishment handed out to Dida and now this :)

Shame Nigel Miller is still taking the Orient game, but you can't have everything.

but like, if this is the same charity as that programme, in that it was clear she didnt wanna go public to the newspapers and evrything....

But she was the star of a documentary on it or something?

I think it's appalling the way that charities try and emotionally blackmail people, if there's one more woman in Liverpool city centre who incites that " don't care about animals" I'm going to de-ovarize them.

im a nurse and a sports fan and im disgusted with the way they are acting. plus if you are working as a nurse in this country, you get paid a lot more than in a lot of professions, if you cant afford your mortgage, then sell the property and buy something smaller. job done. i hate scroungers.

one of the papers today was saying boro actually donate more to charitys than most other premiership teams , they just dont shout about it

can believe it too since gibson is such a nice guy

I watched the original documentary and just didn't like the woman. I thought she was trying to boss people around and make them donate even if they didn't want to. What happens if someone already donates to a charity why should they be made to donate to another one? Talking generally here not just in relation to this.

And am I right in saying that Dr Noreena Hertz isn't actually properly linked to the nurses? She's just some campaigner who has taken upon herself to bully footballers into giving money?

First nurse I've seen actually talk like they live in the real world.
They get a good wage when the vast majority of people earn under £18,000 pounds a year, being paid £18,000 a year basic to start is good money.

I cant be doing with people moaning about low pay and bad conditions, if you dont like it better yourself and get a better job, the world does not owe anyone a living.
