TPS registered already before anybody says it.

I'm currently getting something like half a dozen a day minimum, either scams (we are calling from MS, energy supplier etc etc) or just a dead line which will after a few seconds hang up or say "goodbye" andthen hang up.

I've just had my 9th for today starting at 8am and being a night owl I'm getting a little annoyed by them.

Before I spend the next hour or two on the phone to my provider has anybody had any success with getting unknown numbers (1471 - we do not have the callers number) blocked at all? Or am I going to have to go down the route of getting my number changed?

Thanks :)

Just for information; if the calls are coming from abroad, which a lot of them do to circumvent the rules in the UK, there is nothing that can be done about them sadly.

Yes, I am aware that calls from abroad are not subject to the same legislation, that was why I asked if anybody had had any success in getting unknown numbers blocked.

You can do anonymous call reject on BT but it costs you a monthly fee.

ok Dano, sorry. Wasn'y trying to teach my granny to suck eggs or anything like that, just mentioned it for information as stated ;)

I'm not sure how it's done but a family member has it so any numbers that are withheld (141) can't be connected.

The person gets the message that you aren't accepting withheld numbers and must dial again with 1470 in front of the number so it's revealed and will be put through.

I *think* it was done through BT as I'm pretty sure they are registered with BT.

Ahhh, after a bit of googling it turns out blocking of withheld numbers is indeed possible and free from Virgin Media, awesome :)

This is essentially what a call blocker does. The caller gets an automated message that states that we do not accept withheld numbers press *a number* to get through. It works very well at my house, and you can get them relatively cheap.

This is why I have no phone plugged into the landline. Got plenty of minutes on mobile, as do most people. Also can just plug phone in if you really need to make a call.

I also change numbers every time I change phone/sim. Just send a group text message out.

Although if you use landline loads probably not a solution, but I don't know many people who use their landline much these days.

Humour them.

I love those calls. Silly little people, just chat to em! :D

record a very long slightly random answer phone message along the lines of an elderly person not suite understanding whats being said (they love old people as they are easier to scam) see how long it takes them to realise is recorded

If you've opted in to receive information from 3rd party sources then TPS doesn't matter one bit.

When did you apply to go on the TPS?

When I applied a few years back, it took around 6months untill we stopped receiving the spam/cold calls. But it certainly made a huge difference after that.

I've been on TPS for years.
