Lulz - Red Bull ask for FIA inquiry into Aston Martin design amid 'copying' claims

el Beeb said:
Red Bull have asked Formula 1's governing body to launch an inquiry into what they say is Aston Martin copying their car.

Aston Martin have produced an extensive upgrade of their car for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix which bears a striking resemblance to Red Bull's design.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said he wanted to know whether Aston Martin have stolen their intellectual property.

The FIA told BBC Sport the matter had been referred to the stewards.

Aston Martin said the FIA had confirmed it was "legitimate independent work".

De Vries faster than Latifi, that's a tad embarrassing for the Canadian. Vips, on the other hand, is 5s off the pace.

Mercedes look a little better than at other tracks, but they did okay in the tests here so perhaps it's a track that flatters them. Aston's new design isn't setting the world alight yet, but presumably they'll need a while to dial it in.

BBC describing it as a promising session for Mercedes because Russell is in 4th - but he's still 0.8s slower. Haven't they been sitting around 0.8-1.2s slower than the front at pretty much every track in reality? Doesn't seem that promising then!

Promising mostly because they didn't seem to be porpoising anywhere near as badly. Solving porpoising should let them start dialling that car in.

Tip: Ignore anything the BBC say.

If Haas stuck it on P1 in practice they'd publish an article proclaiming how promising they look.

Merc have been 0.7-1.0s off the pace since the start of the year. If they're still that distance off come Q3 then you'll know if they've made a step... but certainly don't read in to any practice times.

They've all got green cans of Red Bull (the summer edition, I think?), a reference to Aston's "Green Red Bull".

Inspire of the fact it's been looked into by the FIA along with the processes that led them to that design and all declared perfectly fine.

Lance has said the team actually designed two different cars, which was something that was talked about in FP1.

Yes, thus "trolling". I don't see anything wrong with what Aston has done, but they've clearly looked at the Red Bull for inspiration, just as Red Bull and Ferrari borrowed the bib wing from Aston.
