With 5 hard drives, I am finding it annoying to have 5 different drive letters within Windows, hence the desire to create a spanned volume.

Anyone else use these or is it simply better to use RAID?

Also, with a spanned volume.. will the volume remain even if I completely delete the Operating System which is on a seperate Hard Drive?

Thanks.

Are all the drives of equal size? IF not you'll need to have a nested RAID config to give you redundancy.

The RAID config is stored in the RAID BIOS (I hope you are doing hardware RAID over software) and so you can delete the OS and keep the logical volumes.
