on many modern diesels the injector and diesel pump are coded to the ECU, so when you swap them over, you ideally need to swap over the ecu aswell.

Its not rocket science, but not somehing that a ordinary diy mechanic can do easily.

Assuming you labelled the wiring loom i can't imagine it would be hard, that said i'm sure it would still be a ball ache.

So you get your new (secondhand) engine, and need the ecu to go with it, then you need the key thats coded to your secondhand ecu, and probably the transponder, oh, and the lockset to go with your key as well...but, you knew all that already didn't you...

On newer BMW's even a CD changer has to be coded to the car or it wont work.

Glad somebody on here knows just what a hassle modern electrics can be.
