SPAZ - Space Pirates and Zombies

Hi All,

Our new version 1.0 should make Zombies a lot more reasonable. Their health bonuses are much lower, but the infected ships now get shields and armor (not the ones hatching from eggs) This means that your weapon tech remains viable late game depending on your focus.

We also made zombie critters (the little guys) need to chew through 75% of your armor and 50% of your hull before invading your ships. This gives a little more of a breather, and makes it more fair for people who have specialized in armor instead of shields.

We seem to be on track for the August 15th release. I am actually just adding achievements today. The version 1.0 has a ton of changes from 0.9.007 that I hope you all will enjoy :)

Glad chapter 4 is being changed. I spent the whole game up to C4 using lasers then all of a sudden had to start running around firing SRM missles and getting a bit bored.

Aye I know what you mean. I've been focused on Cannons for my own ships and Beams for my AI ships and it simply doesn't cut it any more. Its really annoying when you're killing 1 enemy and within 5 seconds another 2 have appeared from it and you just can't keep the numbers down.

I've started a new playthrough (with 150 stars instead of 300) where I'm gonna try and focus on launchers to see how they do from scratch. Its just really awkward when your AI allies have no concept of self preservation and charge in to close range with launchers...

I would actually wait for August 15th for your second playthrough. There as just a ton of changes and I have a feeling you are going to like a lot of them. In particular, AI ships stay the **** out of explosive blast waves. Weapons are re balanced. The fusion beam is now a cutting torch that burns through armor and hull really well. Scatter cannon fires an ion burst to drop shields. Particle cannon does universal damage, and it now actually worth using. Here is a raw list from the website of new stuff you'll be getting on Aug 15th.

- Added stored designs for each hangar for easy switching
- Added a reset design button to reset the design to the current ship
- Fixed repaired ships inheriting current design instead of just fixing current ship

- self destructing ships cut their engines to drift into targets
- ships have a sense of self preservation (avoid exploding ships, if it will do major harm)
- Added cloaking stealth damage 1.5x + specialist and research boosts.

- zombie killers have armor
- on killer conversion shields and armor gone but will repair
- zombie ships cannot spawn eggs for 5 seconds after birth.
- ruptured eggs cause greater damage to the spawned ship.
- rammed zombie critters do double damage but go splat
- added an extra set of 3 intro stars to make game start more sane
- critters damage shields armor and hull over time, progressivly
- armor must be < 25% for critters to invade
- hull must be < 50% for critters to invade.
- zombie ship repair rate lowered
- doubled boarding combat speed
- zombies will not fire on infected ships.
- ai should not attack spaced goons anymore
- zombie tech level scales with the progress toward the final battle. instead of being locked at 90
- level down difficulty option (one way only)
- goon pods added.
- increased data cube lifetime
- mass bombs inherit ship velocity
- mass bombs now explode to drop a gravity well (does not effect allies)
- mass bomb flight time effects grav well radius.
- research damagestrength effects wisp damage too
- research damagestrength also effects strength of gravity well.
- mass bombs impact with high projectile damage
- hunter srms are do ion damage but can hunt cloakers too (ion damage trippled)
- lowred SRM count. spamming was overpowered. (also cpu pig)
- launcher boosters from 25% bonus to 20% bonus to reload speed.
- slight increase to missile reload times
- slight increase in power consume for missiles
- escorted ships get much less angry from friendly fire.
- mass bombs no longer player pilotable. fire like torps now
- upped mission counts in general and made metagame changers more common
- lowered spread on scatter and particle cannons
- drone bombers do high explosive damage
- increase to disruptor cannon damage and speed
- particle cannons, shoot 2x as fast as disruptors, do universal damage, shorter range than cannons, more power effieient shoot 6 shots at a time
- scatter cannons longer range and do ion damage.
- tractor beams work while cloaked
- Added option to turn off auto pause on lose focus
- Autotarget and first press of prev or next target target closest to reticule
- targeting system will target the ship under the reticule on prev or next target pressed, always
- inertial engines upgraded. Better top speed and acceleration. Very nice engine now.
- removed inertial engines ambient damping
- ai avoids wisps dropped by mass bombs
- leech beams 40% weaker.
- +50% goons cap, 20% default goons
- tutorial skipper
- more turns between zombie attacks
- leech beams effect zombie killers but not breeders
- ion damage effects zombie killers but not breeders
- dont allow zombie ships to shoot crew pods
- turret firing mode made global and saved
- collection mode made global and saved
- request crew hotkey added (M)
- lots of upgrades for mines. beware.
- AI better at deploying minefields.
- mine droppers cloak disrupts when they lay a mine
- Achievements.

"Hilariously" the game completely breaks when you dont install it to the default location, space bar doesnt work in game. So much for that game, £10 wasted :\

Sorry that you ran into that issue. It was extremely rare and we could not reproduce it. Rare like 5 times in 12,000. That being said we do want to get your game running the way you want it. If you send your CD-key and purchase location to contact(aht)spazgame(dhot)com we will try to get you sorted out with a different version. We are a 2 man company and are doing our best to get SPAZ working for everyone who purchases it. Your CD Key will also work on Steam after we release there. It may take a day or so to get all the keys added to their Database, but that will be another way to play too.

The upside of PC development is the freedom to make what you want, the downside unfortunately is just about everyone has a unique config and there are these crazy out of no where compatibility issues. We apologize.
 
If my current key will work with Steam then i'll wait for that, from all of the forum posts (i did my research on this issue) the only fix is to install the game to the default location which unfortunately cant happen.

So thanks for the offer but i'm ok to wait for the steam release :)

Version 1.x out now on Steam and apparently our non-steam keys are being added to the database. My key registered fine so I'm installing as we speak :)

Actually, the install completed before I could finish writing this post. Woo.

Doesn't matter anyway atm. I'm making serious headway into building an underground mansion in Terraria... that'll keep me occupied.

Nice. We've just beaten Skeletron on our save and have raided the dungeon. I'm probably pretty much at the end of the content on this play through so I'll probably leave it for a few months until there's a decent amount of new stuff from the patches.

Its a fun place that dungeon with all the spinning balls and fire wheels and the Curse from the skulls... Nearly done with my mansion anyway, I think I might need another trip to Hell to mine some more obsidian bricks/walls though. The worst part will be transferring items between chests so I can actually move them...

Anyway back on topic. Tried my key without the '-'s and it worked. Bit late to bother with it now but it downloaded ludicrously fast.
