Hey,

My first job is im going to replace my 2 front speakers in my 106 13cm speakers in door panel.

I've read Infinity are the best? I've got £50 and under to spend on 2 13cm speakers for the front :P

Been looking at these?

NFINITY 5012i, 13cm (5.25in) 135Watt 2-way car speaker

A few weeks later im looking at 6 x 9 in the parcel shelf? Can I add em on them own do I have to get a sub and amp? :?

I cant really afford an sub and amp.

Don't get 6x9's in most cases they sound dreadful, they will puss your sound stage to the rear of the car, and the whole thing will sound a mess.

Get some decent component speakers in the front and amp them, you will have FAR better sound quality that way.

Oh, and under NO circumstances get 6x9's AND a sub, dear god that will just sound terrible.

Ment 13cm ;)

Anways? ... Which speakers are the best for the price?

Your views on 6 x 9 ?

EDIT: Edited top post :)

i think 6x9's in a reasonable shelf can sound ok.

6x9's can add a decent low end to a car without the need for a sub. I must admit most of my systems that have had 6x9's have always been a bit mushy sounding. but for the sake of 100quid (50 for 6x9's) (50 for average full range) you cant go far wrong.

of course up front components is better, and even unamped are better than full range.

cheapo amp and cheapo components for 100 quid? no thanks.

just my opinion. had plenty of cheapo stereos in cars, and installed a few for other people.

nothing quite beats sitting in the silence of your HOME with some real speakers though :)

Tbh I think that for a quick fix 6*9's aren't all bad.

I have Infinity components amped at the front and Infinity 6*9's running of the HU at the back.

Any car I hear with a sub, the panels are rattling and it's just too boomey. Also it takes up quite a bit of space and is more expensive than a pair of 6*9's

I'm not saying 6*9's are better, but deffo cheaper and use less room.

My current set-up in the Golf consists of:

Alpine Head Unit - £100 Second hand
17cm Infinity Reference Series components up front - £100)
JBL Grand Touring 75.4 amp - £90
Infinity Reference Series 10" sub in sealed box - £35

£325 for the lot and it sounds great - no droney crappy bass, just nice punchy crisp sound that works for all sorts of music.

I'm considering getting a set of infinity 6x9's at a later date for people sat in the back because the music is a little drowned out by the sub when you're back there, so they would just be used for 'fill' sound.

I really wouldn't advise skimping on your speakers, it's not worth it as you spend half as much as you could do but get sound that's four times worse.

My original set-up was the Alipine HU (50WATT x 4) then my infinity door speakers hooked up to that - sounded fine for most things, just lacked the bass I wanted, hence the upgrade.

So to conclude, you'd be fine going with some decent component speakers and a reasonable head-unit. You'd be looking at around £150 MAX for the start of a top quality set-up and you wouldn't be dissapointed.
