Spec me £10k, fun but not too impractical

So I'll be one too.

It's still 2010 ;).
Ooo, ooo, can I be a pedant, 06 Reg would be over 4 years old :p

That said I would probably stretch to 06 for the right car (read: more car for the money), Mazda6 MPS for example.

No dice on getting the clio for £8.5k, they were still offering £9k with the 12 months RAC Warranty. Now the car apparently came with 6 months warranty, so the 12 months isn't much of an extension, I'd say certainly not £199 worth which they would ask you to pay for it in the showroom when the 24 month is £399. What kind of offer would be sensible if I go back on the 30th when it opens again, £8700ish with no warranty extension?

Even though I like the Clio it's not the end of the world if I don't get it, I'll go car shopping up north first weekend of January, but I would be determined not to pay the full £8995 for it (unless that is a good price and I'm going about it all wrong!)

Seen an "Audi A3 T FSI S Line Special Edition" online for £8000, 43000 miles. Seems massively under price - what's likely to be the crack there? Poor bodywork/condition, poor service history?

i dunno, seems about the right price for an '06 TFSi, mine was an '05, better specced and sold for 7k by the dealer i px'd with about 6 months ago.

Wow they are cheap then

Seems well off parkers price, and even lower than the thieving gypsies at WBAC. I'll definitely go and look when it reopens post-christmas.

I am about to start looking and I am think seat leon Cupra mk2. However they don't do dsg or leather :(

BMW 1 series
Vw golf
Audi a3

Tomorrow I'm going to look at a 2008 Clio 197 (non-cup) 22k miles, £9k. I would try and haggle down a bit if I do like it (ideas as to a good value?), but anything in particular I should look out for with these cars?
How do they compare to others in the class? (what else is there outside of Corsa VXR, which I'm not interested in)

I own a 172 that I've had from new from 2004.

I would not pay 9k for a 2 year old 197. I'd say 7.5k is about right.

At 2 years its starting to need expensive servicing, and unless you are getting a car that, has new brakes, solid dampers & springs, the exhaust will be on its way out, new tires, and budget for the aux belt replacement at yr3, then 9k is way over priced.

Haggle like buggery because when you've had one they are expensive to run if not looked after, chances are if they got rid after 2 years they probably only changed the oil.

Lol wtf, stop talking rubbish, the 197 service schedule is much changed over the 1*2. 'Expensive' servicing (i.e. cam/aux belts) isn't due for 5yrs/72k miles. Otherwise at 12k it's oil/filter, 24k the same plus air filter, 36k oil/filter + spark plugs, repeat until 72k.

Brakes are pretty inexpensive at £71 for a pair of discs and ~£95 for a pair of front pads, dampers and springs have no chance or being shot by then unless the car has been competing in the dakar rally and similarly I'll eat my hat if the exhaust was going after 2 years too.

Basically the 197 is a far superior car to the 172 and you're just jealous ;)

Ok leftfield option:

I've had a couple of Tsports before and they have always been fun (once the suspension is sorted). Limited run should equal limited depreciation and its reasonably low miles. It would leave money left over for repairs but being a Toyota you are probably better off spending it on a decent holiday :D

Diamondmark'esk disclaimer - I've had a bottle of red and have been considering it myself.

There you go conclusive proof a French hot-hatch is cheap to run. Although looking at the username you might want to take it with a pinch of salt.

I would, this is someone who thinks a set of P-Zero Neros are bad enough to warrant changing a brand new set on a car on which they are OEM fit.

Yeah I mean, you'd be far better off trusting someone like you who hasn't even owned said car and seems to think a car is fit for the scrappage scheme after 2 years? I never said it wasn't cheap, it just isn't expensive like you were very wrongly trying to make out. Try not to cry too much about it.

Didn't say that now did I? The ironing is delicious (Simpsons joke before you try and smugly lulz about the spelling), for someone who whinges and moans so much about words being twisted. As soon as possible, could perhaps mean, just throwing this out there, once they've worn down or realised they're pants? Perhaps you and Edinho could go hug it out somewhere, maybe Here?
