Just got board in title. Can someone spec me some DDR2 to run on it. I was looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)

Although board only supports 667MHZ memory speed would this memory still work?

For:
- general browsing and itunes
- watching movies
- games: Call of Duty 5, GTA4...

Should this RAM be compatible?

Perhaps I should just buy another 2GB kingston 667 stick - whatever is best for performance

Would I benefit more from making it upto 4GB of 667 or using 4GB of corsair 6400 at 667MHZ? - no overclocking happening

It should underclock the ram. As for best performance obviously a proper dual channel low cas/timming kit. But there wont be any real world noticeable improvements due to it being a better make and lower cas.

went for another 2GB stick of kingston 5-5-5-15 6400

It actually seems to run my PC quicker than when my DFI had 2GB of 1066 Corsair

vista home basic + also premium when i install upgrade again in minute. Showed 4gb on a previous pc with this OS

I should say that although vista and 3dmark only show 3 gig - cpuz shows 4 gig

I am not sure it they have both 32 bit and 64 bit versions on the disk. You have installed the 64 bit version?

Memory is running fine at 667 - only problem now is why vista x64 is showing 3GB (4GB shown in CPUZ). I have a feeling it may be mobo limit. Bit confused

Hi there

I had a look on Gigabyte's website and your motherboard supports upto 4GB so there shouldnt be a compatibility problem in that area.

There has been quite a few posts on here about ram not being detected properly so a quick search should have the answer!

That's weird then. Because I'm using Vista 64bit which I never had a problem with before and according to Bios it is the F7 version which is the latest version (although my processor only needs F6).

Anyone got any further pointers?

Hi rodo, the reason why the system can only address around 3GB of RAM is because the motherboard chipset can only support an address range of 4GB:

Microsoft said:
For Windows Vista to use all 4 GB of memory on a computer that has 4 GB of memory installed, the computer must meet the following requirements:

The chipset must support at least 8 GB of address space.....

When the physical RAM that is installed on a computer equals the address space that is supported by the chipset, the total system memory that is available to the operating system is always less than the physical RAM that is installed. For example, consider a computer that has an Intel 975X chipset that supports 8 GB of address space. If you install 8 GB of RAM, the system memory that is available to the operating system will be reduced by the PCI configuration requirements. In this scenario, PCI configuration requirements reduce the memory that is available to the operating system by an amount that is between approximately 200 MB and approximately 1 GB. The reduction depends on the configuration.
