Spec me a £2000 good sized estate car

Id never touch a ford again, my last one was a 2001 which I owned from new, and after 6 years the sills, arches and brake lines were all shot.

Now drive a Volvo the same age with 80k on the clock and its immaculate.
The build quality is like night and day.

Mine is a V70 AWD 2.4 turbo, I would avoid the R model and possibly the T5 due to the parts being even more expensive.

If you cant find one for the right money theres always the V40 which is also a great car, I owned one for a short while before crashsing it and getting the v70.

The crash experience is mainly why I got another Volvo.

cheers guys

going to check out a 9-5, a V70, and a 940 I think and then possibly a legnum too.

What do we think has the best boot space ( this is the most important thing to me really next to comfort )

More trouble than it's worth.
They're FWD and they're not really all that great.
Older 960s are better.

As far as I know, all "r's" are awd, and other v70s can be fwd, or awd, depending on model.

The 9 series will have a bit more boot space than the v70, but that said, I've lugged a fairly hefty fridge-freezer In my v70 with no bother.

Naa, im sure R's can be FWD

Edit: Yes, the V70R was AWD or FWD, and i think the 850r was FWD too

Also, dont think any were just RWD

A 940/960 will be the biggest and the most comfortable.
However, it's also the most dated, but therefore the cheapest :p

Maybe I'm wrong, they surely couldn't have sold many though..

Why anyone would buy a fwd 'r' - not a sensible configuration for that kind of power and weight lol!

Most v70r's are AWD, but the others are more likely to be FWD (estates anyway).. all S60R's are AWD

For info above, the Legnum/Galant Estate is about 1500 litres seats folded. Not sure how that compares to the others though.

My mistake. I think the 850s were both FWD and AWD, but I'm not sure. (T5-R v R)
But all V70Rs were AWD, so that's my bad.

Either way, the 960 is bigger, better and no turbo issues to worry about.
It's not as quick, but then speed isn't an issue here.

The thing is with these old Volvos is that there are quite a few who have been owned by enthusiasts, and will therefore be in very good condition. You pay for it, but they'll be just as reliable as the W124.
