Okay, since this year is going to be a beast for new games, i've decided to buy a new system since my current is a few years old.

Got about 2k to spend, could probably push it to 2.5 if the parts are worth it.

Since I haven't built a system before i'm not going to risk it, i'll be getting my local computer store to do it for me.

Don't need mouse/keyboard/monitor

So yeah, all specs are welcome

Thanks lads :)

So are you planning to buy the parts at OcUK then have the store fit them for you?

Do you need everything?...... monitor, keyboard, mouse?.... etc..... Operating System?

I'm planning to buy all the parts at OcUK yes, and my local store will fit them for me.

Don't need mouse/keyboard/monitor

But I do need an O/S, Should have mentioned that, sorry.

Total : £1,647.16

Add some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound and windows XP or vista.

Theres plenty left over for a new monitor like the Samsung SM-226BW 22" @ £270.

Ok spec'ed up the best system i could and i didnt even hit £2k without going stupid.

Not sure on exactly which boards support Quad Core so someone might have to verify that for you, i just picked one with bundles of extras and a popular board.

Sub Total : £1,453.86
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £12.95
Vat : £256.69
Total : £1,723.50

I think anything more would be just wasting money because you have it.....

You might get some better suggestions on a good quality motherboard, but the rest are sound parts.

Thanks for jumping on my toes, but good suggestion on PSU and proberly mobo to.... and of course i missed Arctic Silver (always handy).

Would be nice if you used a thumbnail for the image to so half the thread isnt taken up by one image.

Spend about £1500-1700 on a rig now. Save the rest for in a 6-8 months time when the likes of Crysis are released, and you need to upgrade the gfx card to a proper dx10 one.

Crysis comes out sooner than that doesnt it?

I also heard 8800 GTX will run crysis very well on high settings... well apparently they they were using GTX when they made gameplay videos.

Crysis MAY come out September time, but then again, it may not. Such has been the case since god knows when.

I'm sure the GTX will run it well, but if you've got the 2k budget, I'd spend the 1500 now, and save 4-500 for the next generation of dx10 cards. The 8800s are brilliant dx9 cards, but I'm not expecting blistering dx10 performance.

I dunno, i thought the spec i did was pretty good.

Of course Mobo and Memory can always be improved, but with a big budget a feature rich mobo was better suited i thought.

Think the rest is just preference....... Plextor would be my choice on DVD drive just because they make very high quality drives, as with the HDD's, why 1 x £150 500gb instead of 2 x £55 320gb's?.... that just makes no sense....

By the end of the thread the OP has 5-6 different specs and is likely to be confused.... would be nice if just one spec thread could stay on track.

A single 500gb drive wouldn't be my preferred choice, i would maybe go with 2x320's or 2x500's and mirror them.

Personally i would also build the system myself, even if i wasn't 100% sure there are plenty people on here who are willing to help.
