Well my 4-5yr old leather jacket is ready fro retirement. it's the only coat i have had in that period too.

I'm looking out for a 3 in 1 jacket that has a detachable inner jacket (preferably fleece like) and is waterproof and wind proof.

I have seen a really nice one by Timberland that costs £180 (ouch), but should last a few years.

Anyone got any recommendations about these types of coats, prices and where to buy?

Whats the warmth like on these? Was looking at getting either the Evolution or the Amplitude, haven't got around to going into town yet to try them on though.

Was looking for something that would keep me warm in the depths of winter, especially when I'm out watching football in minus temperatures for hours not moving!

The evolution is top notch but i strongly recommend getting a size smaller than normal as they are quite oversized.

Well I popped into millets and they had a XL (their largest size in store) and was too small. Now worried that a XXL might not be big enough.

Also, everything they had was 90% black and 10% either blue or brown, not a great choice.

Another North Face Evolution triclimate owner here.

I find the jackets are on the small size if anything. Usually I wear large clothes but I needed an XL in it just to get the shoulder width I need.

Bumpage. I had my set on the Berghaus RG1 but some reviews seem to suggest it wasn't that waterproof nor breathable. The North Face Evolution Triclimate seems a very worthy purchase. I need one for Glasto and other future hiking/camping/rainy events. Is this the best money can buy for £100?

I did a bit of research last year when I was looking into getting a new jacket. The consensus was that these 3 in 1's are a bit pap and you should layer properly instead.

:)

These guys have a vast review database with price brackets, brands etc. Also a forum there as well.

I think for a fully waterproof, windproof with fleece and breath-ability it's asking a bit much, especially on the £100 mark. The one I ended up getting was the Spayway NYX, great hood, fully waterproof, fairly light and rolls up into a really small size taking up minimal space in your rucksack. The Cyclone is also supposed to be pretty good, but I preferred the NYX's hood. They both use a Gore-Tex shell fabric as well which will give you the best waterproof / breath-ability ratio by far at this price range. The RG1 you were looking at does not as far as I can see.

Hope that's a bit more helpful :).

Mine was great in the depths of winter. Even kept me warm when I was at football matches in minus temperatures with not much on underneath. Well worth the money in my opinion!

Very happy with mine. It's extremely warm and keeps you dry, I'd say it's worth every penny of £100.

OP where do you live?

For an outdoor shop go to "Go Outdoors". They are pretty good. They will price match for online too (barcode scanner forthewin [why is that starred out?!] ;)) and give you 10% off with membership card.

edit: anyway Berghaus, North Face and Marmot are good

How much rain has yours been subjected to?

Knowing me, I will arrive completely prepared for a down pour and it will be all sun. Though that is not such a bad thing. It rained a fair amount last time I went though not as bad as the year whole fields of tents got swept away. They *say* this June is going to be pretty wet I think but did they not say that about April?
