Well, these guys are pretty good and they are sold in the UK but not sure on currency conversion. So, yeah.

What do you need the pack to do? (or not do)

cheers mate will take a look - basically I need two things here

1 massive backpack thanks for the site

and a secondary bag - atm I'm looking more for 2ndary bag which is light and easy to take around. kind of like put some basic stuff into when going locally in the train or bus etc...

65 litres ought to be enough. Adjustable height back is a must if you're doing any miles in it, plenty of extra straps/loops on the outside to hang stuff on is handy, separate compartment in the bottom is handy for boots etc, collapsible extension space is also handy. Have you looked at military Bergens?

The straps on that kanken look really uncomfortable...

Are you looking for a big backpack or just a regular one? I spent a fair whack on a nice berghaus one but I've done loads of travelling with it and it's never let me down yet and is super comfy. :)

edit: it's 65litres + 10 if that makes any sense.

You really need to go and try them on in the shop. Comfort varies massively between the ones I tried when I was looking for a walking daysack.

I ended up with a 30ltr Berghaus. Like AGD I found the Berghaus to be extremely comfortable and the straps very supportive where they needed to be. I've done numerous long walks in the Lakes and Brecons and its still as comfortable as the day I got it. It is one of the Airflow range bags too like Jellybeard mentions. Whilst ventilation to your back is greatly improved I did still sweat a bit, though the walks were tough and included a lot of uphill!

The 65ltrs +10 AGD is because the main area in the bag is 65 litres but there is also a 10ltr pouch at the bottom, if I recall correctly.

Well if you want a massive backpack that also converts to a day pack and is bombproof maybe have a look at the Berghaus Vulcan. It's a military pack and it's olive green but is huge, hard wearing and the two side pockets can be detached and stuck together to make a day pack.
