I wouldn't personally go for a dual core if I was building a new system. If i5 is too pricey I would try and get a core 2 quad.

Socket 775 is starting to become a bit legacy and if you don't like AMD you should really be looking at an i5 build for longevity

also there is no HDD in your build - are you reusing an old one or did you just forget?

Here is my i5 spec:

814i5.png

Its a bit over budget, but it is worth it. If you need to get it down to £750 then switch to an AMD X3 720BE or X4 955 AM3 system (i would be happy to spec you one up). I suggest sticking with the GPU I chose, have a look at this review (Green Bar). It seems to give the GTX285 a kicking.

Oh, the monitor I chose is well worth the premium. Being an eIPS panel and all.

4 quick questions

1) performance compare between E8400 and i5 750? E8400 clock speed is a little faster and more cache per core than i5

2) does i5 750 support VT?

3) does Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 support VT?

4)Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 support crossfireX, does that mean i cant use single nvidia card on this board?

cheers

1) The 750 is faster, have a look at this review. It compares a bunch of chips in games, including the i5 750 and the E8600). In multi threaded apps, the i5 demolishes the dual core.

2) Yes

3) Its governed by the chip, so yes.

4) A single Nvidia card will work fine. Obviously, you can't add a second in SLI (as it isn't supported), but one card will have no problems.

cmndr andi, thanks for the spec but you havent selected a case there.

Apologies, a small oversight. I would recommend this case, but if you like the antec 300, then it is also a good case for the money. I realise this puts you further from your budget, but you could go for a cheaper mobo as you suggested or go for the fantastic spec Superewza just put up based on the plenty powerful X3.

my plan has changed a little.

i already got antec sonata and 900, sonata is being unused, so i will transfer all hardware from 900 to sonata and use it as download box and file server. will use 900 case for new system. i will use the DVD-RW from 900 instead.

how about this spec?
