Right, need two rigs specced, neither for me, I'm more than happy with my C2D system.

First one:
budget: £1000
main usage: light gaming (flight sims, especially FSX), browsing, music, videos. a decent to large amount of storage space would be preferable, as would a C2D system. Needs everything, monitor, kb/mouse/headset (rather than speakers, its for *** gf, she'll be in durham, i want to set her up with skype and a webcam)

Second one:
budget: £500
main usage: browsing/word processing/music/vidoes. needs everything, although I would possibly consider using my old athlon XP2600+/ASUS A7N8X deluxe and enermax liberty 400W, in which case I won't need a cpu cooler either.
so case/monitor/ram/DVD drive(2 if possible)/keyboard/mouse/headset/AGP graphics card/HDDs. preferably the super lanboy, and preferably an lcd.

seems alright, but perhaps if i were to swap the 400gb drive for a second 7200.10 250gb (i have two of them and i love them), switch to a super lanboy case, add a freezer 7 and a DS3 perhaps?

any takers for the 2nd challenge?

I dont see the point on changing the standard heatsink unless your overclocking? I would pay the extra £20 for the DS4.... better onboard sound system, especially when you will be using it for this..

OEM version doesn't include a HSF.

much as I would love that spec, murzo, it doesn't include a graphics card. And for the GF, methinks that mouse is a little overkill (I have one and love it, but I doubt she would really appreciate it)
 
This seem like being a good idea for my first one? gives me enough left over to pick up an eyetoy from a well known auction site to configure as a webcam.
